Best Time to be in Niue

Hello!

We are planning our honeymoon and are thinking Niue and the Cook Islands.

When would be the best time to be in Niue? We prefer relatively calm waters and warmth for snorkeling. We also don't like the rain.

Second, how do we get to the Cook Islands from Niue? Is there an Island hopper airline that flies between these two islands frequently?

thanks!!!

The only way to get from or to Niue besides sailboat, is by an “Air New Zealand” flight from New Zealand. The flight is every Friday (once a week). There is no island hopping flights from any South Pacific Island to Niue at the moment (there was one from Samoa a long time ago but it is no longer operating.).

The best weather in Niue is between May and November. December to April has more rain and it is cyclone season.

Cheers,

Roger

Go to the Cooks for your honeymoon. I have ben there 5 times, will be going agian this year.

I have also been to Niue, its unique , but unless you have doen a lot of research and know hwat you will be grtting when you get here, id go to the COOks. Nuie is a coral push up out of the ocean , so has no beaches as such. Great diving as there are no rivers and streams , so the water is crystal clear, but here is no gradual drop off , you go inot 70 to 100 feet water , striaght off the shelf.

The Cook Islands are very nice, easy going, good snorkelling , just great.

Hello,

Niue is great!!! Is for the more adventurous traveler.

Visit the link below, it gives very good information and advice on Niue, we found it invaluable when we went. The more knowledge you have of Niue before you go the more you get out of this awesome rock paradise in the middle of the ocean.

One of the best parts about Niue is the people!!! They are so friendly. If you do go, May to October is probably best. As far as rain goes, we had a shower of rain most days we were there in July, but they are most welcome as they cool things down a bit.

We have been to the Cook Islands, Niue, Fiji (Yasawas) and the Solomons all during the months of July and August and at some point you can pretty much guarantee it will rain.

If you want to be lounging around on sandy beaches, shopping etc Nuie maybe not the best place to go.

For a Honeymoon I would recommend the Cook Islands or the Yasawas in Fiji. Highly Recommended in the Yaswas would be Botaira Resort, Oarsman Bay, and Nanuya. All have own bathrooms. You can travel from one resort to another on the Yasawa Flyer which is a very highly organised affair on a daily basis. We spent two weeks at four resorts there.

Hope this helps and best wishes for the wedding.

Regards

Happy Seasider

Hi

We've been to Niue twice and are planning another trip in July. Anytime from May to October would be ok weather wise although you can't guarantee the weather anywhere these days. We've been both times previolsy in October. First time was very hot second time was cool and rainy.

The flights are from Auckland only with Air NZ . The schedule has changed and the flight now leaves AKL on a Saturday and leaves Niue on a Friday. Niue is one day behind NZ.

The diving is first class. Niue Dive (run by Ian and Annie Gray) http://www.dive.nu/. They also run whale watch trips in the afternoons from June to October/November time. I beleive the dolphin wtch trips run year round. It is one of the only places in the world where you are allowed to swim with the humpback whales and the experience is unforgettable.

Max 6 swimmers per boat (4 on the dive boats) so book ahead or you may miss out.

Niue is stunning and refreshingly different to other south pacific islands. There is one hotel which is ok but we preferred Namukulu motel. Immaculate units with a kitchen and pool and bbq area.See here http://www.niueisland.com/wheretostay/ for lots of alternatives. There are no kids clubs and no beaches to speak of. There are some wonderful coastal tracks which lead to beautiful swimming and snorkelling holes. There are a handful of places to eat which are reasonable and usually very good. There is a 'supermarket' and a smaller shop but supplies are limited and more expensive than at home (obviously as they have to be shipped in). If you self cater for some meals, take basics with you like noodles and snacks etc and you can have a very reasonably priced holiday. You may buy duty free wine/beer/spirits at the one and only bottle shop for up to 3 days after arrival if you produce your boarding pass. (opening times can be erratic so check first)

Feel free to email me if you have any more questions
