Affordable Honeymoon

My Fiance and I are getting married in Late September and are hoping to travel to the South Pacific - not Hawaii. We're looking for something affordable with great service. We hope to be as close to the water as possible and on a resort that's relatively laid back - we're young, so we'd still like to do things that keep us active (like snorkeling, diving, etc). Our budget is around 2000 -3000 USD (excluding airfare) - his thinking is on the cheaper end of the spectrum. Meals do not have to be included, but would be a perk. Would anyone be able to explain how things work around the islands, as far as taxi service, leaving the resort to explore and dining outside of the resort?

What an exciting and truly romantic honeymoon you have planned, I'm sure it will fill you with memories that will last a life time.

Without knowing how long you intend to stay on the budget you mentioned I can only give you advice as to what is available for the requirements you have mentioned. If you plan a 10-14 day stay I would suggest the following resorts:

On the north west coast - Aggie Grey's Lagoon Beach Resort and Spa is fantastic. Great rooms, traditional Samoan decor, fantastic views, right on the beach, with pool, idyllic tropical setting and also the Manaia (Samoan for beautiful) spa and massage centre. They specialise in weddings and honeymoons so if you let them know that it is your honeymoon I'm sure you'll have a few extras coming your way, There are 5 restaurants and bars, entertainment each night and the meal plan includes breakfast lunch and dinner and makes it considerably cheaper. Also on the north west coast is Le Vasa Resort, you have your own fale (villa) from which you can walk straight out onto the beach. Great restaurant and staff, views and traditional Samoan hospitality and decor.

As most resorts on the south coast were wiped out by the September tsunami I can only make suggestions as to which ones I think will be re-opened by this September so check their websites for updates. Sinalei Resort was the most beautiful in Samoa before the tsunami and I'm sure they will rebuild it the same way. It is right on the water and very luxurious. Another is Coconuts Beach Club where you can get an over the water fale (if they are rebuilding that way). Sa'Moana Resort was left relatively unscathed and is re-opened so check out their website as well, right on the beach, great food and with a pool as well. Can't really comment on meal plans for any of these.

It is not easy to eat out in other areas from any of the beach resorts as they are all quite a distance from Apia but you can resort hop and eat at a close by resort for a change occasionally. Aggies also runs a free shuttle into Apia each morning at 9.30am (Mon-Sat) returning at 3.30pm so you could just stay in town and check out the nightlife and catch a cab back to the resort which is about 60 tala ($US25). Getting around in the south is a little more difficult as taxis can become expensive. Have you thought of hiring a car for a few days, a Getz will cost around 120 tala ($US55) a day and you'll be able to truly discover and explore this beautiful country.

Also check out jasons.com/samoa and samoa_hotels.ws for other varities of accommodation, both sites are very helpful.

I hope this helps, let me know how you go and if you have any further questions just feel free to ask.

Manuia le aso (have a great day)

hi congratulations,

i would recommed sinalei ( they recieved damage with the tsuanmi ) but are planning to open in april , i love it here. from sineli you can get a taxi ( it would take about an hour to get back into town ) if you wanted to go somewhere else for dinner, but they have nice resturants there.

they offer dive / snorkel day trips/ sunset cruises etc.

or on savaii - lelagoto resort, great fales and great diving, swimming with turles etc, lovely beaches.

i also love sa'moana and the food here is fantastic, the beach and the whole setting is amazing, and they have a great pool overloooking the ocean, they can do deals with meals included.

sa;moana offers day trips - check out the web sites.
