Local beach fees=local currency?

We are going to be in Apia just for a day and I have read that there some local beach fees of a couple of tala. Do they accept any foreign currency or will I need to change to local? Thanks!!

Are you staying totally in Apia for the day, or are you getting out of the main town and going to visit some of the villages and beaches? Get some local currency and make sure you take a cab ride and see some of the country at least. Make sure you agree any cab price beforehand, and yes it will cost you a few Samoan tala to stop and swim at most of the beaches, as it's all privately owned land and for many of the families, that's one of the ways they generate a bit of income for themselves. In some places, there are also toilets and showers so it helps them to maintain those.

Are you in Apia on a cruise ship??
