The total you may bring into Vanuatu is:

Spirits 1.5 Ltrs each adult PLUS

Port, Champagne, Sherry or Wine 2 Ltrs PLUS

Beer 1 case per person.

Common spirits are cheaper in Vanuatu than at Duty free in Australia.

You buy it either at your airport of departure or on arrival in Vanuatu. The total remains the same. In Port Vila you go through Immigration and then buy your duty free, collect your bags and then go through Customs with your completed declaration they give you on the plane. The items you have to declare at Customs are the same as in Australia. (food, wood, alcohol, plant materials, porn etc).

During your time in Vanuatu you can buy more duty free items including alcohol. But to get the duty free price they may not be used in country. The shop takes them to the airport where you collect them at a counter in the departure lounge as you leave.

The supermarkets sell alcohol except 12 noon Saturday to Monday morning. There is a large selection of Australian, NZ and French wine available. Prices range from $22 for a 2ltr bottle of Australian export quality Chardonnay to $10 -100 normal bottle size.

We have also found a good wine shop called Libation which is just up the hill a little from Leaderprice supermarket. It sells a good range of Australian and NZ wine and has deals if you by 3 bottles of white or 3 bottles of red.

We usually buy a wine pack ( 4 to 6 bottles in a reusable bag ) duty free just after you go through customs and security at Sydney to take with us to enjoy while away.

As Peace and Light said you can buy duty free items in Port Vila for pickup at the airport on your return, we found the prices on spirits really cheap and much cheaper than the final duty free shop back in Sydney just before you go back through immigration. For example we bought a litre bottle of gin for AUD $19 at one store then found it even cheaper at another for AUD $16 , it was $30 duty free at Sydney and retails here in the shops for around $50 for 700ml and $60 online for a litre.

The limit coming back into Sydney is 2 litres per person.
