Reputable beginners dive course + water temp in July

We want to give our son a dive course for his 18 th bday whilst over in Vanuatu. Prob going to stay at Breakas in July. Is the water going to be cold and is the weather ok July? Any feedback appreciated.

Hi Morrocomrs,

We did a similar thing and chose Big Blue Dive Centre. They are based in the Dive Shop near the Mamas craft market downtown. It is behind the Healthwise Pharmacy and across the road from El Gecko.

They did a pool session in the Breakas pool one morning then an open water session off Pango Point the next day. It was very well received. We went through Maggie. For more info on the dive check out their website bigbluevanuatu.com/courses/…49-discover-scuba

Hope this helps,

Jen

BY the way the water is quite good for swimming, and especially diving, at any time of the year.

Morrocomrs,

We went with big blue last year and they were fantastic. My son who is 10 is great at snorkelling and really wanted to scuba. I have done lots of snorkelling but never gone the extra step to scuba, but under some(lots) pressure from my son we both took the plunge. The team at big blue went through the pool session with us and then did our dive out off pango and it was amazing. My son was better at it than me and Roger the instructor spent more time making sure I was O.K. than my son. We saw so many fish and the coral was great. Do it, he will have a ball.

Steely.

I'm going to confuse you and say dive with Vaughani Shores - see http://www.divevanuatu.org/

We had such great fun diving with Karl (we were total scuba beginners at the time) and the great thing about it was that he just takes only your family for the day. To have an instructor (and helper) looking after just 2 of us was great ....especially now, after a trip to the Great Barrier Reef where there were hundreds on the boat!!.

Obviously, the choice is yours, but I can highly endorse the Vaughani experience! :)

Thanks Jobanoonoos. We actually wanted him to do a certified scuba course and get his certificate in open water scuba diving. I have written to Padi to see if they have a course in Vanuatu. Otherwise he can do the tourist introductory dive. I will check out the Vaughani website. Thanks for your input.

Should have looked at the website before replying to you. Vaughanis is Padi so he can do the open water course there.. THANK YOU!

Yes, he's fully accredited to run the certifying courses - we were discussing it with him when we were last there, though we only did intro dives at the time. Will certainly dive with him again when we return to Vanuatu in December - we were very satisfied customers! Hope your family has a great time in Vanuatu and your son enjoys the diving experience! :)
