Vanuatu in April

Hi everyone,

My partner and I are taking our first trip to Vanuatu for 7 days in 2 weeks time and we were wondering a few things:

1. How is the weather during this time? I know it is still part of the summer season but we are hoping there wont be too many thunderstorms, is it wet most of the day or is there mostly sun?

2. Has anyone stayed at Iririki Island recently? We are staying there in an Island Bure and would love to know other's experience of the resort

3. What are the best activities to do? We are in our early-mid 20's and are keen to try everything :)

Any guidance would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance!

The monsoon should be well and truly fading by then. Most days will be in the high 20C's at least, and the sea temperature is about 30C. Make sure you take some reef shoes and mask/snorkel at least to swim around Iririki and other places. Check out Hideaway, Mele Cascades, Ziplining, Parasailing, maybe the Blue Pool, and lots more.

Check out the satellite weather …noaa.gov/sohemi/sohemiloops/shirgmscol.html and that will give you an idea what is happening in the area.

The Port Vila webcams will show you what is happening right now http://www.telsatbb.vu/public_cams.aspx

Those will give you a good idea of the going on weather wise at any time :-) And don't worry about rain, no one else does, it doesn't effect anything you do and if you get wet you are dry in no time.

Hi Wabster,

Thank you so much for your advice, this has put my mind very much at rest as I was quite worried about the weather.

I have written down all the places you mentioned and we will definitely check out as many as possible!

Thank you :)

Courtney have a look at the Things to Do link at the top of this page for an idea of what you can get up to. Also you can arrange private transport such as a local bus to these places rather than go on a tour and it works out much cheaper.

I stayed at Iririki in a Fare last September. We loved it! The restaurants had lovely food (especially Micheners), at a similar price to what you would pay in town.

The Fares are quiet and private, though less modern than the apartments. We found the bed comfortable and the bathroom was nice and airy.

The pools were fine, but we spent most of our time in town or out doing other things. It was good to be able to borrow a kayak and go for a paddle around the island.

Hope you enjoy your trip!

We stayed at Iririki about 2 years ago in a waterfront fare and loved it. Agree with Kat the food there is great, you can also dine at the casino in town and charge back to your room (you could back then anyway)

If you get a chance go on the buggy adventure tour it is great fun and you get to see some of the countryside and local village children. There is also scuba diving, cruises and village tours, we went on the sunset cruise which leaves from near the casino, thought it may have been a bit lame when we booked but was a good evening on the harbour around the island

There is plenty to do in Port Vila, you won't get bored

Cheers

If you can afford it, be sure to get out and do the Volcano Tour, my recommendation is the Overnight tour as seeing the volcano as it gets dark is truly amazing. There are plenty of Activities on Efate to fill your time with but standing on the edge of an active Volcano is for most people a once in a lifetime opportunity and not something I would ever tell people they could miss out on!!

The tour can be easily booked through a few of the Air Tour Companies:

tripadvisor.com.au/Resources-g294144-Maps-Po…

Head to that link and look under the Tour Companies section or have a search for Air Tanna Tours and it'll bring up a few in the area. Booking like this is hassle free, your flights to and from will be taken care of, all fees (Minus the 200vt departure fees which is about $2 Australian which is payable at the Airport in some cases), the Volcano tour itself including the entrance fee and transfers to and from the airport at Port Vila.

If you book an overnight tour the price usually also includes your Accommodation and Dinner as well. Rationalising the extra cost for the Overnight is pretty easy. Depending on if you have booked your accommodation or not, some people opt to not have a room booked in Port Vila that they will not be occupying instead checking out the day of the tour and checking back in the next day on their return which means the $80 AUD or so extra for the nights acommodation and Meals is well worth it.

Diamond, the War Horse has moved from where it was before, into town I think. I'm sure someone here will fill you in on exactly where. The original poster has come and gone, a year ago :) She didn't come back and say how it was, but it would be great if you could if you have the time.

Cheers, Barbara
