This trip like the first two was for 8 days. As usual we used private guide Mr. Ye to make all the arrangements and accompany us on the full itinerary. We flew into Yangon on 12 Feb on the early Thai flight from Bangkok. We took a short tour to a "language" monastery where they teach various foreign languages to the citizenry at no cost. Shortly after lunch we took the Air Bagan flight to Sitwee.
At Sitwee we stayed at the Nawaratt Hotel. We were on the third floor with no elevator. The hotel was not fancy at all but clean. It had an excellent AC. The breakfast was good with the Rakine version of mohinga. At dinner we ate at the River Valley Restaurant which has a great menu with many seafood selections. Beer was 2200 Kyat. Meal with five dishes, 2 beers and a bottle of water for three people was 18,700.
The next morning we visited a big market and the fish market. We then took a private boat to Mrauk U. We were traveling with the tide and the trip took 41/2 hours. The boat trip was very interesting with the various vessels and the life along the river bank. When we arrived at the Mrauk U dock we were met by an old army jeep which took us to the Noble Hotel. Again nothing fancy but clean. Again the AC was very cold and worked all night. We ate dinner at the Moe Cherry Restaurant. Beer was 2500 Kyat.
The next morning we took a long bumpy, dusty jeep ride to a jetty on the Lay Myo River. There we boarded a boat to visit the Chin villages up the river. The Chin villages were extremely poor and a bit depressing. We opted out of visiting the third village. After returning to Mrauk U we did some more sight seeing until sunset where we visited a mountain top temple to watch the sunset. Again we spent the night at the Noble Hotel.
The next morning we toured some of the temples in Mrauk U. There were many temples. Not as many as Bagan but to me more interesting. That afternoon we took the boat back to Sitwee. Again the trip was with the tide and took 4 1/2 hours. We spent the night in Sitwee again at the Nawaratt Hotel.
The next morning we visited some of the local industries in Sitwee. After lunch we went to the airport intending to take the flight to Ngapali Beach where we had reservations at the Amata Resort. This was not to be. The flight from Yangoon to Sitwee was cancelled and we were offered a free hotel in Sitwee but we elected to take a late flight back to Yangon. We spent the next three nights in Yangoon with a day trip to Bago.
Sorry for the length. If anyone has questions, ask here or send me a private message.
