Reasonable Costs for Guide

My wife and I are planning to visit Yangon, Bagan, and Inle Lake travelling internally by domestic air.in November We have been given 3 quotes for guide services all of which include driver, guide, internal air and mid range hotels for 7 days. The guides would make all the arrangements. The quotes do not include meals or admissions. All the quotes are about the same at $100 USDs per person per day. This surprised us compared to the other countries we have visited in SE Asia which were very inexpensive, this seems expensive? We want to help the locals, but is this the going rate and reasonable? Thank you.

Why don't you try with the station guides. If you hire a through out guide you have to pay not only guide fees but also for his expenses. Normally an English speaking guide will cost US$ 20-25/day plus his expenses.

If you do with the station guides you do not need to pay for his expenses such as air tickets, accommodation..etc

It looks a little bit expensive. Try to negotiate or..

I think the previous posters are missing the point as your $100 each includes transport and hotels-it is not a guide fee.

On this site your can find out individual hotel prices and air fares, that will then give you an idea of the guide rate.

I would estimate this current going rate is $30 a day for the guide, not per person, plus expenses and a decent tip.

It means a classic tour for 7D6N with mid range hotels.

Normally it include:

All transfer, Sightseeing & Excursion with private car and boat

Accommodation as agreed before ( twin room sharing basis )

English Speaking Guide (STATION GUIDE )

Domestic Air tickets

Exclude:

Visa fees

Meals & Drinks

Entrance Fees

Insurance

Personal Expenses

Airport Tax.

The tour with this kind of offer you have to pay around US$ 500/pax.

Station Guide mean, if you go to Bagan , the guide from Bagan will receive you. If you go Bagan to Mandalay, the guide from Bagan will not follow you and another guide from Mandalay will waiting you at Mandalay.

They station in one town only. So , you do not need to pay for their expense , like tickets , meals , hotels charges. However , you have to deal with difference person at every town.
