Visa On Arrival ......Discontinue!!!!!!!!

It was heard that the new visa on arrival procedure will be discontinue starting from 1st Sep. The election date was confirmed. So I think they would like to control the medias and the others getting in. But no problem for the tourists.

All has to do as before.

1. Go to Myanmar Embassy and get visa there ( or )

2. Let a local travel agent applying visa on arrival from immigration through Ministry of Hotel & Tourism.

When they get the approval let them send a copy to airlines and a copy to you for your reference.

Then there will be no problem at all.

Hope it will help for all.

Guess we could see that one coming, the one good thing for some people is that at least there's been plenty of notice given. Gotta love the thinking of the authorities...Introduce the VOA for just over 3mths when they know full well there's going to be an election then discontinue it nearly 3mths before the elections....Genius!!!

Just a matter of seeing how long it takes them to resume it now.....we may have to consult Number 1s astrologers for that one!

Having heard of long queues after arrival on the TG flights I had decided to get my visa in the normal way.

The London embassy has been very efficient over the years with a 48 hour turnaround so my plan is to send off the applications a week before I am due to visit London advising them of my pickup day.

I should say that this is after November!

Confirmed above breaking new launch from authorities, VOA ( on arrival visa ) will be suspended from September 1st 2010. The period of closure seem until the end of November.

So the entry VISA can be apply as the ordinary way to the nearest Myanmar Embassy ( OR ) contact minimum one month ahead via any of local travel agency helps.

The embassy information can visit;

I have to say it is 100% confirmed. After the meeting it was held yesterday, a verbal notification was sent to the airlines.

A verbal notification to the airlines;-)..I think we can safely say that that's a fiasco in the making...it took the airlines long enough to realise there was such a thing as VOA here.

Is that end of November date also been confirmed for when the VOA will resume?

I think that if anyone is visiting around the election date & is within the time frame of applying for their visa at embassies in their own countries or elsewhere to be on the safe side & do it asap. I don't think we've heard the last of visa restrictions yet...nothing to add to the confirmed information above but there's certainly strong rumours, let hope they stay that way.

verbal notification: it may be because of the weekend. As far as I understand the departments that practically involved in the visa on arrival has already received the instruction.

Probably the result will be clear in the next week.

Thanks KKYM...It's certainly the word coming from all quarters now, no VOA as from Sept 1st.

For those who are thinking of overstaying their visa & paying the $3 per day at the airport when leaving, there's talk that this is also going to change to the sum of $30 per day & possibly not being allowed back in the country. Not a huge deal, it's only coming in line with what other countries immigration laws are...If you intend to overstay then check at Yangon airport before heading off on your travels.
