It seems difficult getting info on how to get a Myanmar visa in the UK. I called the Myanmar embassy in London but it had a message saying 'mailbox full' so was unable to speak to anyone. I'd appreciate any advice on where to begin. Thanks.

Hi all,
Quick question, when your filling out your visa application forms are people putting the name of a hostel in the;
11. Address in Myanmar...
We have not booked any accomodation as yet and wondered if we needed to prior to sending off our visa forms. Also just had a look on Hostelbookers and hostelworld and can't find anything for Myanmar, any tips? does anyone know of a forum discussion on the topic I can check out?
Cheers
Scott.

Beautyland 2, Micasa or Inya Lake Hotel-all Yangon will do.
No worry
If you want budget accommodation then post an "Ask the Question" here for recommendations and also try Lonely Planet,Myanmar forums.

Just a quick note for those in London who travel frequently and are concerned about the potential passport downtime required for a postal application (I've seen recent posts commenting that the embassy seems to have got a bit faster these days, but delays are always possible) -- in my experience, it's really quite easy to apply in person as long as you can be flexible with your daily schedule.
As noted previously, the embassy is located at 19A Charles St, London W1J 5DX; a 5-10min walk from Green Park station. Application drop-offs are only between 10:00 and 12:00 weekdays, and collections are only between 15:00 and 16:30 weekdays; they seem quite strict about the timing and be aware that there may be queues.
You can collect the application form at the embassy and fill it in on the spot (it's not complicated, though you do need to know a hotel address) if you haven't already got one -- I had two copies with me (along with two photos), though I saw earlier posts saying that only one copy now seems to be required. The guy took them but attached both photos to one form (staple then paperclip) and seemed to set the second form aside; however, I can't promise he didn't later file the second copy elsewhere.
Although you do need to pay via Postal Order for postal applications, when applying in person you can pay by cash (£14 for a tourist visa), and they even had change. You can apply on behalf of someone else too, e.g. you can take in both yours and your partner's passports and apply for both at the same time (fill in two forms though).
The embassy has a token-based queuing system; there is a sign when you walk in, though not everyone seems to see it. Take a small yellow token from the pile and have a seat in the waiting room. The tiles are sorted numerically but on the day I went there were some gaps in the numbers, which came as a relief when I drew #39 and heard that the next number they called to the counter was only #19. With the skipping of those gaps, my total wait was around 20 minutes.
At the counter, they'll take the form(s), attach the photos and staple a receipt number into your passport. You pay in advance and are given a handwritten but embassy-stamped receipt with a number that corresponds to the one in your passport -- keep it safe, as you'll need it upon collection.
The turnaround appears to be 5 working days including the dropoff/collection days, e.g. I applied on the morning of Weds 13th Feb and was told to come back on the afternoon of Tues 19th Feb. I was only able to turn up shortly before closing (16:30 sharp) on the 19th, so there was no queue and I don't know whether you'd need to rejoin the token system for collections as well; you could ask on the spot.
Obviously not everyone can make it to Mayfair at those times of day, but for those that can, I found this the fastest and most convenient way to apply (no need for a postal order, recorded SAE etc)... now to look forward to what should be a fantastic trip!

"Thanks to all the useful posts on this forum I have just received my visa for Myanmar.
I sent 2 pics, 2 application forms (sent to me by silverswimmer), £14 postal order, my passport and a special delivery return envelope to the embassy by special delivery on Monday and I received my visa early this morning.
I posted it at 3 pm on Monday and received it back at 9 am today (saturday), so I'm very impressed with the turnaround times at the Embassy."
Similar to the above, whilst i've never posted here this thread has been a great help.
I posted my visa form late on Friday Afternoon, it arrived at the Embassy Monday morning (as its shut on weekends) and I have got my passport back today... that is a whopping 3 days inclusive if considering only the period during which the embassy had my passport.
I sent 2 pictures, £14 postal order (to "Embassy of Myanmar", uncrossed) , my passport, return envelope and an application.
For those looking for the application, another way to get it (as I imagine Silverswimmer gets tonnes of requests!) is to download the Trailfinders form for a Burmese visa... whilst you wouldn't want to pay their fee, the official document is on page 3 of the pdf they send you by email.
Hi all,
Just thought I'd give a quick feedback
Last Monday, 25.02.13 I sent a special delivery envelope off address to the Visa Department, Embassy of the Union of Myanmar, 19A Charles St, Mayfair, London W1J 5DX. Inside this I placed 2 separately sealed envelopes one for myself and another for my girlfriend's visa applications and inside these we sent the following;
2x copies of the visa application form completed (provided by SIlverswimmer, thanks), we haven't booked a hotel but said we were staying at Inya Lake Hotel as suggested in post 163.
2x Normal UK standard Passport size photographs
1x Passport
1x postal Order for £14 with recipient left blank
1x return pre-paid special deliver envelpoe
we posted all of this hoping that it would all be back in time for 19th March when we fly out to Kathmandu. Our passports complete with Myanmar Visa's were received back on Friday 1st March 2013. Phew!
By the way John M post 166. This i some poor lady's residential number :) thank you all the same.
Thank you all so much for all your help and advice on this forum and silverswimmer for all the knowledge you share.
