It seems difficult getting info on how to get a Myanmar visa in the UK. I called the Myanmar embassy in London but it had a message saying 'mailbox full' so was unable to speak to anyone. I'd appreciate any advice on where to begin. Thanks.

I posted mine the same day as Cibarious and got my visa this morning too.

It was issued on Friday 13th, hopefully not an omen.

After all that checking who the payee on the PO should be, in the end the lady at the post office gave up trying to fit the whole title in and just cut out a few words of her choosing. I think it said "EMBASSY UNION MYANMAR" in the end!

Since she'd already ruined the first one by making it crossed when I asked for uncrossed, I didn't have the guts to ask for another.

So I was a bit concerned when I sent the application off, but it does seem they aren't all that fussy in the end about things like payee, crossed or uncrossed PO, one or two copies of application form (I sent two). When your holiday is at stake though it it's hard to be so carefree about it all.

Thanks all, and SS for the good advice.

I receive my Visa back today, and posted it to them last Monday.

Embassy service is really straight efficient

One think to point out, the visa start date is the date when the embassy receives it. Not the date specified in the application.

Things have improved over the past couple of years but it is still difficult to get definitve information.

this is my experience this week :-

1. downloaded (from embassy website) tourist visa form and completed it + passport photo

2. collected together passport/ £14 postal order/ details of flights and accommodation/ return registered envelope/ copy of form + extra photo.

3. Monday 23rd - arrived at embassy (12A Charles St.) at 9.40am went straight in, took number, waited.

4. 10am (opening time) called to desk, gave in passport/ form/ p.o./ NOTHING ELSE.

5. was not asked for any other information.

6. told to collect on 26th - said i had return envelope/ was asked for extra £1(?).

7. whole thing took 5 mins/ passport arrived ON 26th.

Felt it was better to go in person as not really sure what we would be asked for. went prepared with additional informatiom which (on this occasion) was not required. Posting everything seemed to be an option but decided not to risk it so booked into Abbey Wood campsite and travelled in by train.

Remarkably easy in the end.

Visa can be used for 28 days within the next 3 months.

Thanks Kenny,as you discovered the London Embassy does not need itinerary or proof of travel (unlike the US) but you were well prepared, just in case.Three day turnaround is really positive,I think it is 8 days for post both ways.

Have a great trip

Going to submit my application today, but wanted to check a couple of details - I'm including 2 "normal" size UK passport photos; is it okay to stick one to the form over the "photo" box and just pop the other into the envelope loose? And I'm including an uncrossed PO for £14 made out to "The Embassy of Myanmar" - is that correct? Thanks in advance!

Don't stick them to the form as they scan them into your Visa.

Just paper clip the 2 photos to the top of the application forms.

Your wording for the PO is fine.I assume you are including a prepaid return envelope so no need to include extra for postage

Do post again with the timing and experience,so to help others

Yes, I'll be putting a return envelope in and I'll be happy to post my experiences when I get the passport back. Thanks for the tip about not sticking the photos to the form, though! Unfortunately (and annoyingly) I have no paperclips in the house. Grrrrr.

Well, I've now got my Myanmar visa! I sent it via Special Delivery on 1st October, the Embassy received it on 02/10/13, and posted it back to me on 10/10/13. I would have received it on 11/10/13, but unfortunately I was at work, so I picked it up from my local sorting office on the morning of 12/10/13. So, inclusive of posting each way, it took only 11 days from door to door. Not bad at all!

For reference, my envelope contained the following:

- One completed application form (kindly provided by Silverswimmer; thanks!)

- Two standard UK size passport photographs (paperclipped to form)

- One crossed postal order for £14, payable to "The Embassy of Myanmar"

- One UK passport (!)

- A pre-paid Special Delivery envelope with my home address on it.

All in, including Special Delivery both ways, postal order and passport photos cost me approx. £31. Feeling when I received my passport back with a Myanmar visa inside it? Priceless :)

Can't wait to get there and start exploring! Roll on December!
