GSM ( US$ 20 ) prepaid SIM card is available again.

Outgoing local call 30 cents/ min, Outgoing Int'l call 90 cents/ min, Incoming call 5 cents/ min.

Available at most of the electronic stores in Yangon city center. But they will charged about 20,000 Kyats. It's valid for one month.

For those who want to leave contact No. at home, let your agent buy in advance and get the no. before you come.

Confirm it works well. I used 2 sims during my stay and can receive call from my home country. Out going call is easy. But remember once balance is 0.00 they are unable to receive call too.

I recently used one of the MPT (Myanma Posts and Telecommunications) 20,000 kyat GSM SIM cards without any problems.

No activation was necessary - simply put the card in your phone and it works.

The card will have a phone number on it and for people to call you from within Myanmar you need to add 09 to the beginning of the number on the card. For people to call you from overseas you need to add the country code 95 followed by 9 to the beginning of the number on the card.

The only set up needed on your phone is if you want to send SMS messages - you will need to change the SMS Message Centre number in your SMS settings on your phone to +9595930003.

SMS cost is 5 cents a message but you can only send SMS messages to phones within Myanmar.

For balance check you dial *124#.

It worked well in each of the places I visited - Yangon, Mandalay, Lashio, Pyin Oo Lwin, Bagan and Inlay.

You cannot top up the card. If you run out of credit you need to get a new card with new number.

How much credit do you get for a card at 20,000? Is it the whole amount?

Hi all,

I've been lurking in this forum to prepare us for our short trip to Yangon in February and have accumulated many valuable pieces of information that will enhance our journey... so first off, thanks all muchly for them!

As communication is important to us, it is good to hear about SIMs for voice calls, but I wonder if you could advise whether Data services are available in Myanmar?.. also what is the availability of WiFi?

I would greatly appreciate your replies.

Cheers ツ
