Much is written on here about how easy (or not) it is to get a Myanmar visa in Bangkok. There is not much about Australia for Australians. Mine just turned up in the post today and I have to say it could not have been easier or faster. It took only a week from when I sent it off. They do say allow 4 weeks though.

All I did was download the application from the embassy web site http://myanmarembassycanberra.info/?page_id=93 – I need 3 for the 3 of us, and filled it in, printed them off and sent in a registered postal bag along with:

• Passports for each person

• Two recent passport size colour photographs for each person

• Company cheque - $A35 for each person – they don’t accept personal cheques so if you don’t have a company you will need to get a money order or similar

• Registered Post self-addressed pre-paid envelope for them to return out passports

• A letter that stated

- Departure date from Australia

- Dates of entry into and departure from Myanmar

- Business hours contact phone number

Really simple and fast

Myanmar here we come!

The process of getting a visa in Australia is straight forward. However please note the Embassy is currently overloaded and return of visas is taking anywhere from 3-6 weeks. Part of this is due to last minute applications and incomplete applications which delay all applications. Please allow plenty of time to get your visa if you are travelling over the next few months (high season).

Was the letter containing departure details written by yourself or your travel agent. The Tolls Visa Direct stipulates that it needs to be but the Embassy site does not. Thanks in advance for the advice.

Casa62,

I have just sent off my passport and letter for our third trip. The letter, like the previous two occasions, was written by myself and included the arrival and departure dates.

It took 5 1/2 weeks from when I sent mine to when it arrived back. When we called them they were overwhelmed with applications and said they were doing them in order of when they flew out and some people were probably going to miss out...we are leaving in just over a week. My daughter went in April and it took them about a week to get theirs back....what a difference a few months and many more tourists make!!!

Thanks everyone for your advice and comments. Our applications left Brisbane today by Platinum Express and we fly out on Sunday 23 December. That allows 31 business days for processing; not a lot of float but should be O.K. ...fingers and toes crossed because we don't have a Plan B!.

The embassy received our passports on the 1st November and we depart Sydney on the 16th December. Hopefully, they have enough time!

ALLOW 5 WEEKS + FOR MYANMAR VISA

It is 5 weeks since I lodged all the relevant paper work and passport to the Myanmar Embassy in Canberra sent via Platium) . I tried for 3 days non-stop on speed dial every 10 minutes to ring but the line was constantly busy--I finally managed to get through today and my application had not as of today been processed and was advised that they would get back to me. I mentioned that I needed the passport because I had to obtain further visas before my departure date 26 December, 2012 and I was asked whether I had mentioned this in the letter--which I hadn't and considering I had sent the passport in plenty of time. At this moment I'm waiting to hear back.
