Myanmar for 5 nights

I will only have five nights in Myanmar - arriving about 10am on a Wednesday and departing about 9pm the following Monday. Trip will be in April 2013.

Do you suggest that I stay in Yangon the entire time? Venture to other areas?

Interested in experience what Myanmar has to offer, photography, possibly hiking.

Thanks for any thoughts.

My suggested Itinerary for 6 day

Day 1-Yangon and Surrounding

Day2-Yangon-Golden Rock (Include hiking for 45 minute )

Day3-Golden Rock- Bago

Day4-Yangon -Thanlyn (Syriam) Day Trip

Day5-Yangon

Day6-Yangon-Departure

If you like to take photography you should skip Thanlyn and visit Bagan or Mandalay.

April,it's summer in Myanmar. So the temp; in Yangon will be 37-40 at day time.So I suggest,1st day visit around Yangon and flight to Bagan that evening, watch sun set and relax at river side.2nd day visit around Bagan bicycle or horse cart.3rd day to Mandalay in the morning if possible. And on 4th day fly to Inle in the evening after visit around Mandalay. Ride boat to hotel which build in the lake.5th day you can do half day trekking and visit in the lake the other half.On 6th day flight back to Yangon in the morning ,you still can visit some places in there.Inform that from 13 to 16 in April is water festival in Myanmar.

We just came back from three weeks. By far the most interesting part of the trip was Yangon, Bagan, Mandalay for us. You might want to think about doing a quick triangle that looks like this

Yangon

Bagan

Bagan

Mandalay

Mandalay

Mandalay has tons of side trips like Mingun and Ava that make it really interesting...

I think you will struggle trying to fit in too much as #2,especially as the strong recommendation is to get back to Yangon for a night before your flight out.

So

Day 1,Yangon,site seeing around Yangon, one night

Day 2 Fly early Bagan, site seeing Bagan, one night

Day 3 Fly early to Mandalay, site seeing Saigan/Ava one night

Day 4 Site seeing Mandalay, pm flight to Yangon one night

Day 5 depart.

Thanks for all your thoughts. I am going to think about the itinerary in rhe coming weeks before making any firm reservations.

I dont fly out of Yangon on day 6 until 9.30pm so I have all day to do something.

Thanks!

For 5 nights, Yangon only is not ideal.

I would suggest you 2 options as follow:

Option 1:

Day 1: Yangon

Day 2: Yangon - Bagan

Day 3: Bagan

Day 4: Bagan - Inle Lake

Day 5: Inle lake - Yangon

Day 6: Yangon departure

Option 2:

Day 1: Yangon

Day 2: Yangon - Bagan

Day 3: Bagan - Mandalay

Day 4: Mandalay

Day 5: Mandalay - Yangon

Day 6: Yangon

Hopefully, it helps

If it was me I would spend time in a Yangon and get to know the city and surrounds and also Bagan - to do anything more means you will spend much of your trip in Airports
