Buying internal flight tickets for Myanmar.

There are currently four Airlines, used by tourists, in Myanmar.

The fifth one Myanmar Airways (as against MAI-Myanmar airways International) is not recommended and Agents will avoid booking on them for you wherever possible.

http://www.airbagan.com/

http://www.airkbz.com/flight-schedule.html

http://www.yangonair.com/

http://www.airmandalay.com/

All of them use ATr42/72 Turbo props and a couple have jet aircraft (F100) Their aircraft types and their network and schedule are on their web sites, but generally not their pricing.

Non of them currently have an eticket on-line booking system and some tickets are still hand written.

Some of them also have a web booking system whereby you can reserve tickets by email for collection and payment on arrival in Myanmar.

By far the best way is to reserve your tickets through a local Agent, there are many recommended on these forums. The cost will be no more than the ticket value, sometimes a few $'s less, but the big advantage is if there are schedule or time changes the Agent can contact you and advise of the change.

Do beware of a French Travel Agent masquerading as Yangon Air and Air Mandalay, their web site has a HYPHEN in the web name and looks genuine and they ask for 50% deposit, balance on collection in Myanmar. There ownership is shown at the foot of the page with a Paris and Bangkok address

Whilst many travellers have used them successfully there have been reports here and on Thorntree of tourists turning up and finding the airline had no booking and having to buy a new ticket. This happened to me once on their Lao-Air site.

The best that can happen is that you lose some money, the worst is that you lose your money and there are no seats available and you are stuck.

caveat emptor

If you are interested in airlines and schedules this link to Yangon will be useful. Not so many years ago there were only a few International airlines flying into Yangon-now the pages are full of arrivals and departures. Internal flights are listed but not logged for timings. Input RGN into the airport box on the right.

This Agency web site has schedules for 5 of the airlines-

Air Bagan,Air Mandalay,Yangon Air,Air KBZ and Asian Wings.

http://www.airmyanmar.com/domesticFlights.php

You can also buy flights by CC on line through the Asian Wings site-click on the top right of the toolbar.

http://www.asianwingsair.com/

Air Bagan is currently testing an eticket system with their Agents which may be rolled out to on-line purchases later.

hope this helps

Hi silver,

thank you for your upload.

I've seen the site, the info are very good about schedule.

Not possible to check flight as the reply is "please choice depart month".

Maybe the price are better on oway.com.mm .

There are also some other good travel agencies as

www.whynotmyanmar.com/‎

and

http://myanmartravelinformation.com/sevendiamondtours/index.htm

They reply very soon at your email and they offer a good service.

The best prices I've found are on http://www.visitmm.com - you can pay online with paypal or credit card. It's not a travel agency but a direct representative of the airline (Asian Wings) so there is no middle man

I recently flew with them from Yangon to Bagan and everything worked well, smooth transaction, new fleet of planes

Hi,

is it necessary to book the domestic flights for the whole trip in advance ? We are flying to Mayanmar on the 18 th of October for 3 weeks. We could book the first flight in advance but we want to be flexible on our trip. Is it a problem to book the flights a few days or even one day before departure ? Is it usually more exprensive ? Or is the price the same ?

Thanks

Nina

September flights should not be a problem-as you say, book your first flight and then others when you need them, the price is virtually the same. There are 5 or more airlines flying the popular tourists sectors.

Hi,

thanks for your answer. But we are going to Myanmar on the 18 th of October for three weeks, leaving on the 8 th of November. I think it should be the high season. Still ok to book last minute ?

Sorry misread your dates-late November still should be OK but best to book 48 hours ahead and do ensure you are back for your International flight at least a day before.

Update (with corrections)

ASIAN WINGS

ANA is to buy for $25million a 49% stake in Asian Wings. AW have also announced plans for two more ATR72's and ten more A321's over the next 5 years to meet their expansion plans within Myanmar and their planned International routes (note these jets can only be used at Mandalay,Naypyidaw and Yangon because of runway length restrictions at other airports)

YANGON AIR

Have taken delivery of an ATR72-500 ex EI-REP
