Prices for day tours in January 2014

Hello,

I've made several inquiries to different travel agents (Asian Trails; Onestop Myanmar; Exotissimo; Taste of Myanmar) regarding guided day trips for 2 persons in January 2014 to different destinations either by car or boat and all quotas have been well above 100 USD (the lowest price quoted has been indicated):

Bagan – Salay – Mt.Popa: 130 USD

Nyaung Shwe – Kakku: 140 USD

Inle – Sankar: 130 USD

Inle – Pindaya: 160 USD

Yangon city tour: 176 USD

These all seem a bit pricy compared to the day tour prices mentioned in this forum earlier or is it just the reality of soaring number of tourists visiting Myanmar?

Thanks in advance!

Holy hell! Those prices are outrageous! Just wait until you arrive and have a local agency or your hotel book the trips, it will be half those quoted prices (or even less). No need to book any of that in advance, by the way, it is super-easy to do it once you arrive.

You can hire a mini-van all to yourself for $60 to get from Bagan-Sale-Mt Popa. No need for a guide really. The places are lovely and very easily explored on your own. (This is what I did)

For a full day on Inle Lake, hire a boat for 15,000 kat (around US $20), no need for a guide. For Sankar, you will have a Pa-O guide regardless if you want one or not. The average price that most guesthouses charge to arrange the day trip to Sankar is US$50, the guide is an extra $10.

The Nyaung Shwe-Kakku excursion is $45 + $5 for a guide (you pay upon registering at the office in Taungyii).

No need to book anything more than a day or two in advance, and, in my opinion, no need for a guide when one is not provided for you.
