Yes, short trip will be worth it if you keep up that curiosity. Don't make any comparison with Thailand, this is totally new experience. Where ever you decide to go, do not miss Shwedagon pagoda in Yangon. Plus, weather is good here in Nov.

I guess it would depend on whether you have the time to travel between 2 points. Maybe I will see you in Yangon. I am there in November

If you're thinking of crossing the border into Myanmar I believe that there is only two places that you can do this. One is crossing the border from near Chang Rai in northern Thailand to the market town of Tachilek. It will cost you $10 at the border & you get a pass for a limited time, I can't remember how long the pass is for, maybe 2wks roughly. You are limited to where you can visit with this pass. You can travel to Tachilek, Kengtung & Mong-la on the chinese border, Tachilek & Kengtung are well worth the trip, you'll be blown away by it's culture & traditions. I havn't been yet but I know many people that have & can't stop talking about it.

The second place is down south where most people on Ko samui & other islands do their visa runs to a border town in Myanmar. All the local travel agents arrange can arrange it for you but I believe that you can only get a day pass.

Go to myanmar & enjoy it, you'll want to go back for longer.

I have just come back from a great trip to Myanmar. Even though we went in the wrong season when it was hot, humid and rainy but it still turned out to be a great outing.Splendid pagodas, monasteries and temples and perhaps the friendliest people on earth. The food was excellent and so were the hotels. They are cheap but clean and comfortable. Only problem is in carrying all those us dollar bills they want for every thing in Myanmar. recently some big hotels and jewellery stores have started accepting credit card with a premium of 7% added to the bill for the service. Do not miss Bagan. It is an amazing place to visit. Good luck.

Hey Stuart-

Crossing the border is definitely not the best way to see the country, but if that is your only way to visit, why not?

And don't use credit cards in MM. You're totally opening yourself up to people using your info fraudulently (not the locals, but the people in SG or elsewhere who process the card.)
