What to do with 5 hour lay over in RGN?

DH and I will be arriving at RGN from Bagan at 1105. We changed the time of our RGN-BKK Air Asia flight to one leaving around 5pm just because we were afraid of missing the 1250 flight. What can we do to pass the 5 hours between the flights? Is there enough time to go into Yangon? If so, is there luggage storage at the airport? We will begin our trip to Myanmar from Yangon earlier in the week and will on our way out to Bangkok, so we don't necessarily have to return to Yangon downtown. Is there anything to do in the vicinity of the airport or do we just pass the time away at the cafe in the International Airport?

No luggage storage at the airport.Nothing to do around the airport. You can spend time away at the cafe.

For 5 Hour you can visit to Golden Shwedagon Pagoda with Airport Taxi and hire him for return so that you can leave luggage on the taxi. You have to negotiate the price to round about 20$ or less. You can check the car number and his name on dash board in case anything happen.

Is that $20 round trip or $20 each way?

How about with 9-11 hours, do you have any other suggestions? I will already have been in Yangon on the front end of my trip for almost a full day, so I can see some things then as well.

Thanks for the suggestion LovelyLandAsia. We would have already been in Yangon at the beginning of our trip for 2 days and visited the main pagodas. Can we engage a taxi driver to drive us around the colonial area and around Yangon for around 3 hours? What do you estimate the cost to be? I am uneasy about just letting him drive off with our luggage to meet up later, even with this taxi number and name. We cannot check our luggage in and leave the airport to tour since Air Asia does not allow luggage check in until 2 hours prior to the flight. I would hate to miss our flight looking for him.

Normally Airport taxi rate to City area is average 5000-8000 Kyats which is less than 10$.For Drive around 3 hour at city area Airport Taxi will charge you around 25000-35000 Kyats which should be less than 50$.

Exchange rate is around 850 Kyats =1$

If you hire from local agent or car rental you get the same price for better car with Air Condition.

Hi fti

For 9-11 Hours spare time and already visited the pagodas and temples you could go to Kandawgyi Garden for walk and relaxing time at some restaurant or you can go to popular Inya Day Spa

As lovely said, No luggage storage at the airport. Hire a taxi, put your luggage in the car and try white elephant camp and Insein Market. Can spend 3 hrs easily.

Otherwise try to leave your luggage at MTT counter, situated in arrival lounge.

Then do whatever you want.

We did the same as you and had a day in Yangon at the end of our trip. Asian Trails www,asiantrails.net arranged a guide and driver to pick us up at the airport and take us wherever we wanted to go. We did the National Museum (yes we were against it at first due to it being Government run but there were some great things to see and are glad we did it), we then had a nice lunch at Padonmar restaurant, a quick trip into Scotts market to use up our Kyat and then stopped to see the white elephants on the way to the airport. The guide even took us to a large hotel so we could wash and change in their toilets so we were fresh for the flight.
