We were just in Myanmar and used Myanmar2go for our travels. We had 4 adults and 2 kids under 5 and they made all the arrangements for us and it was seamless.

They planned a 6 day trip with the following:

-Yangon -> Bagan: flight, hotel and a car service to pick up and drive us around to the top pagodas. The driver was very helpful in recommending restaurants as well.

-Bagan -> Inle Lake: flight, hotel and a car service to pick us up to drive to Pindar caves staying over at Kalaw then drive to Inle Lake. Then arranged a boat service for the 2 days we were on the lake to take us around the village and sights.

Especially for Bagan it was very helpful to have our own car to drive around the sights since the kids get tired easily and they could take naps in the van while everyone else continues to see the sights. The drivers we had at all the places were very knowledgeable, pleasant and accommodating. All the restaurants they recommended were clean and we didn't have any stomach issues.

How many people were on your SmarTours Burma trip? I'm looking at their 2013 November departure.

Did you extend your stay on either end?

Did you find there was flexibility in the schedule to do a balloon ride while in Bagan?

Thanks.

We were in Myanmar for 12 days on a private tour (two persons) that we planned for almost a year. The country is fantastic to see and the people warm and interesting. 3 of the 4 independent free lance guides assigned by our tour operator Myanmar Shalom were very good. The other, in Yangoon, was the worst guide we have ever had in thirty five years of touring.

We can not not recommend Myanmar Shalom. We suffered a number of serious failings and unacceptable changes were made while we toured. Communication and follow up were quite poor. We loved visiting Inle Lake, Mandalay, Bagan etc. but our time in Myanmar was marred by bad execution and unfulfilled promises. Based on our personal experience, and my detailed correspondence that received an inadequate reply I suggest using another operator or at least get feedback of a recent nature from 2014 guests.

Hi, I'm sure you have planned your trip already, but for anyone else interested in this topic, there is a great travel company which puts on small group trips in Myanmar. They specialise in adventure travel for the working professional (meaning no tweens of pensioners!) and their trips are fantastic - you might have seen one of the founders atop the Christ the Redeemer in Rio!!

But anyway, the trip is really well put together and combines a a bit of luxury with real adventure, if this sounds like your thing, their website is www.theflashpack.co.uk.

Also, the Myanmar trip is here:

theflashpack.co.uk/adventure-trips/myanmar

Hope this helps someone!

Thanks MU

Some itineraries/trip reports/hotel reviews from you would help TA readers and give confidence in your recommendations especially as your only trip (review/map) seems to have been to Croatia some years ago.
