Package holiday suggestions please

Hi,

My husband and are in our early 30s and are looking for a 2 week holiday all inclusive. We have never been to Egypt before and we don't know which areas would suit us. We want to learn to scuba dive and we want to be on a beautiful stretch of beach. We don't want a hotel in the middle of nowhere but we don't like too much hustle bustle and noise.Would like to see some local culture and visit the pyramids. Also would like to find a nice hotel that does good food. Any suggestions of what areas to look at or not to look at or hotels that you like or would suggest avoiding would be great!!!

Thanks,

Rach

Local culture is hard to find on the Red Sea as it is mostly purpose built for tourist resorts. The markets being the nearest thing.

If you are wanting to go to Cairo then you are looking at Sinai, so that narrows it down. I find that getting a brochure from the travel agents and reading their blurb on the different areas is a good start. Read about the areas and look at photos on the net. Then maybe post on each of the forums for the area you like to see what people say about the hotels that would suit you. Dahab & Taba are smaller quieter areas than Sharm el Sheikh but Sharm is easier to get to Cairo for the day. Most will offer diving.

I suggest that you spend one week exploring the various historical cities in Egypt (Cairo, Abu Simbel, Luxor and Aswan) and then another week on the beach.

The choice of resorts/accommodation depends a great deal on your budget. I personally prefer El Gouna area. It's less touristic and less commercial than Sharm El-Sheikh, Hurghada, Taba, Nuweiba etc. For information about El Gouna check this website: http://www.elgouna.com/

Here is a small start, I've always been curious about Dahab, I don't think it is all hippies & backpackers but more relaxed that the resorts of Sharm el Sheikh. It depends on how you want your hotel.

Personally I think Nuweiba probably would not be holidayish enough

Depending on the type of hotel you want you could do a Bedouin hotel. They tend to be on this part of the coast. Or you can go as posh as you want.

Something in these may help

You can do Cairo trips from the Hurghada coast but they are overnight by bus I think tho you could fly.
