Will it be easy to book tours in December when in Egypt?

We will be in Egypt from Dec. 7 for about 10 days and are debating whether to reserve daytrips/tours and train seats (Sleeper trains) before landing in Egypt or join tours/buy seats when we are there.

It is our first-time in Egypt so we will be hitting the major sites along the Nile, etc. Will it be very difficult to secure day tours, etc. in December once we are there?

Appreciate your advice!

If you have an itinerary planned, you might want to reserve sleeper trains, hotels etc before you go. You also might want to consider flying. If you surf the web a lot, it can turn out to be as cheap as the train and generally more reliable.

Otherwise, guides, drivers and tours are very easy (and probably cheaper) to arrange when you are then. Indeed, there will be a wealth of choice and they will be climbing over each other to get your business.

Sorry, please read "when you are there". not "then".

Yes you can wait till you get there. You will have to spend sometime researching what you want to see and do. Ten days will go by fast and there is lots to see in Egypt.

I would suggest skipping the train unless money is a real issue. Take the plane. It will be a better use of your limited time on Egypt.

Agree with the others. The difficulty is fending off people trying to sell you tours. You must haggle hard.

Thank you very much to everyone who responded!

I got Cairo lodging booked and will reserve the sleeper train(s) when the tickets are available online.

Perhaps we will do a mix of trains and planes. I did a cursory search on flights, but the costs seem to jump a lot when the flight time suits our schedule. We thought the sleeper trains may be better, as we have limited number of days and want to minimize using daytime to travel. But, we'll definitely keep on looking!

Thanks again, everyone!

To get the best airfares for Egyptair for your internal flights in Egypt when you use Egyptair's website select Egypt as the country at the top of the screen, right hand side.

I suggest flying rather than taking the night train. Flying will allow you a good night sleep, to travel from point A to point B quicker and more comfortably for only a little more money than the train.
