What clothing is acceptable In Egypt?

Hello all -

I have heard differing opinions, but I still wanted to ask... how much "bare skin" is acceptable for a women to show in Egypt?

Are bare arms and legs okay in the summer or offensive to the culture?

Thanks!

Depends where you are but here is a rough guide

In your hotel bikini is fine

Sight seeing shorts and tshirt are ok but I think your better to cover your arms and legs as you can get stuck in the sun.

Out and about same goes.

The worst you would get is the sucking noises the men make.

If you are in a Beach resort they are much like any other wear what you want

To prevent cultural disrespect, cancer, and sunburn it makes sense to cover as much skin as possible with light-colored, lightweight, breathable clothing. If you do this, you don't have to coat yourself with expensive slimy glop every few hours, either! :-)

Just got back from Egypt. We wore long sleeves and pants so we wouldn't stand out too much and respect the Muslim religion. You can wear shorts and swimsuits on the cruises, resorts, tourist sites.

You can get breathing shirts from REI, Eddie Bauer and Travel Smith. They also have a protection from the sun.

Have fun!

I don't think you need to "contact" anybody to know what to dress!!!

Anyway, despite your nationality you are recommended to dress conservatively when outside your hotel to avoid hassle and unwanted attention.
