Getting from the Meridan Pyramids to Cairo Central

hi

Just wondering if a taxi is the best way to get into central cairo. would we ask to go into downtown or where. also anyone know where hilton ramses is in cairo. also what price can we expect to pay in a taxi from the meridan to cairo.

I think answered that one yesterday, but here goes again:

a taxi is the best way

You will pay between 20 and 25 LE each way and you must agree with the driver on the price before you ride.

Hilton Ramsees is on the edge of Downtown.

You tell the taxi your destination whatever it is. The so-called Downtown Cairo is a term refering to the colonial style part of the city between Tahrir, Ramsees and Ataba Squares. However, that is not be any means the "center" of action as Cairo is a very big city with many central districts. For example, the Citadel area is different from El Husein (the Islamic district) and Old Cairo (the Chrestian Quarter) and there are a few others. So, you must know where you are going for each trip and unlike other smaller cities it would not help just to be dropped anywhere in the center and take the rest on your feet.
