about Port Said

Can I get to Port Said from Cairo easily? What is there to do in Port Said, what not to miss? I've read there are not many buses/trains back to Cairo, is there a danger of getting stuck there?

Thanks for any help

Its a long time since I was in Port Said (about 15 years) and from what I can remember there wasn't a great deal there apart from the usual stalls selling every nic-nac under the sun.

We made the trip to Cairo by coach as part of an organised tour.

There are regular coach service from Cairo to Port Said. West Delta and Super Jet are the names of the companies. Super Jet is the much better service/standard of vehicle.

I found this link which gives some info on travelling by coach in Egypt :

I have been to Port Said quite a lot and do like it, not amazing but it is an old Colonial port city, so you will find some things of interest :

- The start of the canal from the Med.

- The Suez Canal Building

(just to look at from a distance, not to enter)

- Watching all the tankers and cargo ships

- Public Ferry to take you accross the canal to Port Fouad

- Old Colonial Buildings

(in bad condition but still nice to see).

- The towns market area

(mainly imported items of poor quality.

- The beach front

Hope that gives you an idea of what you could see there.

TA also has a forum for Port Said but it is little used.
