Sightseeing from Port Sokhna

We will be arriving at Port Sokhna on Monday 9th March as part of a Cruise of the Red Sea. The organised trips are all long days travelling. We would prefer something less frenetic and, in any case, plan to visit Cairo another time for serious sightseeing. Has anyone any suggestions to just give us a taster of Cairo? Would a taxi collect us from the ship? We are two women travelling on our own.

Any tips would be appreciated!!!

Port Sukhna is only 130km from Cairo, on the Gulf of Suez.

Despite the short distance, I doubt so much there will be any means of transport available for freelance hire. You better have an arranged pick-up. Or probably use one of the short tours arranged for the cruise passengers to go to Cairo and then be on your own.

How long will the cruise ship be there? Will it be taking off from Port Sukhna again or will it be another port?

Hi KP58

Ain Sukhna area (meaning "Hot Spring", as there's a natural hot spring by the coast somewhere) has been there forever. about 10 years ago, a seaport was established on the road from Suez to Ain Sukhna, and was called Port Sukhna. It's considered a relatively modern port, and was built mainly to ease traffic off nearby Adabiya and Suez seaports.
