We stayed at the Marrioitt Cairo and Omar Kayyam Casino just about 2 weeks ago. It is an older, historic hotel but very clean, well-appointed, good location and fantastic service. It is rated 5-Star by Egyptian standards. The price was less than your quote above. They can also arrange a 1/2 day tour of Giza including car, driver and guide. Our full day was about $125 with tips, but we booked 2 day tours. The have a great outdoor pool, bar, restaurant combo. See our review with photos.

I would say the Four Seasons too but it's not under $200/night

We stayed at Le Meridian Pyramids which was a long way from the centre but so close to the pyramids you can see them from the pool. It was definitely under $200 per night!

We stayed on several separate occasions during our trip. If it helps we put our experiences online. http://www.our-egypt-holiday-experience.com/

Good Luck

Marriott Cairo was $135, plus a $40 upgrade to the Exec Floor which provided included breakfast buffet, tea time and dinner buffet, plus cheap Internet and a concierge on duty to book your tours or whatever. It was a sweet deal, IMHO. Very nice historic hotel.

I would choose in the first place the Fairmont Nile City. I've recently discovered this new hotel and it's a Great one with impeccable service and attention to the smallest detail.. The Nile view from the rooms and showers is OUTSTANDING. The food is the best among the 5-Star hotels. This hotel is also a part of a bigger shopping center with restautants, movie theatres and shops. It is listed among the three best hotels on TripAdvisor. The other two are the Four Seasons and the Kempinski.

The Marriott is also a good choice for its location on the island of Zamalek. It's close to many restaurants, coffee shops and galleries. Some rooms need a major facelift. Prices are still very high compared to other hotels of the same standard. Some of the rooms need a major facelift but the best ones are those in the Gizira Tower (higher than the 9th floor) facing the garden and partly the Nile.

Other good hotels in Cairo are the legendary Oberoi Mena House at the Giza area ,and the Meridien, the new extension.

We just booked 3 nights in Cairo at the Kempinski Nile. The hotel is beautiful with a great swimming pool on the top of the building. This is a downtown location just facing the Nile. I would suggest to be carreful with location in the downtown area as some big hotels seem to be close but in fact you could easily waste an hour to reach them because of the traffic. In Garden City, you have pleanty of choice sunch the Four Seasons Nile Plazza, the Nile Tower which was the Hyatt before and the Intercontienetal semiramis. We got a great deal at the Kempinski as they offer promotional rates when booking few nights: the rate went down from 225 usd to less than 160 usd a night after promotional discount of 30pct. We have found this deal through tripadvisor as a hotdeal redirecting us to the hotel website.

The hotel has 2 great restaurant that includes a Turkish one - osmanly - which is great.. if you have time try it as the food is delicious, the service is top notch and the ambiance is very nice... they are washing your hands with some waterwith jasmin perfume... great.

Alos they are offering soft drinks, internet for free and they have a huge selection of movies in many languages that inludes the last release.. We did treatment and we had a private room with our own sauna, steam bath and jacuzy: seriously, there is value there for the price your pay and the hotel seem quite new.. I will post a review on this one when I will have the time.

We went to Giza by taxi and it took us 30 min to get there. The good thing was that it wasn't crowded at all.. This is the time to go in Egypt for sure!
