all inclusive one week holiday on nile cruise with thomsons

Only got 2 1/2 weeks to wait now until we go on our cruise. How excited!!!!!! Right, its all inclusive, but we intend to do all the sight-seeing stuff from the cruise but have no idea how much egyptian cash to take - We are going with thomson and have absolutely no idea what souveniers/shopping we can do when not on the boat.

any advice will be gratefully received!!

thanks :o)

The short answer is; don't take ANY Egyptian money, take sterling notes - clean, untorn, unmarked, uncrumpled - and change them, as needed, within Egypt as you will obtain a much better rate of exchange there than in the U.K. Ask for a good supply of small denomination notes as you will need them for tipping here and there.

See also the Top Questions - in blue, on the right-hand side of this page - and, if you click on "Money and Tipping", it links to more information on the subject.

Souvenirs depend very much upon taste and no doubt you will be haggling like the best of them so giving advice on budget is always difficult.

So far as souvenirs go there's alabaster, papyrus, scarves, t shirts, guide books etc but none or all of that may appeal.

As the previous poster states take clean sterling notes and change in Egypt where the rate will be about 10% better than here.

You are going to have a brill time, got back 1 week ago and loved the sightseeing so much,Valley of the Kings was awesome,if you go to Aswan, try buying the Nubian wooden dishes with Animals carved within them, they are not tourist tat,but really well carved, the Nubian hand made jewellery is good value too, watch out for pick pockets though and money swoppers, your guide will tell you more, dont be put off you will have a fantastic time :)

Personally in places like Egypt,Tunisia,Turkey,South Africa,Thailand, always take American one dollar bills.Gets rid of all the hassle of trying to get small denominations notes.

Egyptian notes are invariably dropping in bits.
