Travel from Cairo to Aswan

what is the cheapest and easiest way of transportation to get in the Aswan. other than plane

planning to have budget trip, i already know that the cost of the Sleeper Train

from Cairo to Aswan for Foreigner

shared cabin for 80$ and single cabin for 100$. and it only travel at night for foreigner for safety..

as personally I'd feel safer as an individual tourist on a train full of Egyptians than be part of a herd of foreigners.

is there any other way to cut expenses for this trip?

you can sometimes find cairo-aswan flights on nile air for as low as $45, though they don't fly everyday. (but the night train saves you one night in a hotel.)

"Herd" implies that Egypt and its national railway are swamped with tourists. They aren't and, while things do appear to be improving overall, what tourists there are might (on a good day) be better described as "a bunch".

In any case, if they use the trains between Cairo and Luxor/Aswan, it seems that tourists are officially still supposed to take the sleeper. Many don't, however, and happily use the regular trains without a problem. They are distinctly cheaper and if you want to use one for economy's sake, then (barring a security scare and/or clampdown) the odds are probably well in your favour. Even so, the chances of running into over-eager/officious guards, ticket sellers etc remains.

The 'locals' trains are subject to disruptions etc particularly as you pass through 'troublesome areas' on route. The authorities focus on the foreigners overnight train to have a 'smooth' journey. There is now however a daily VIP train which travels during the day which you can book online. Whichever train you take.. take your own food!

You can book the train from here

enr.gov.eg

tickets prices range from $5 - $15

As long as you hold your ticket and sit on your right seat then there is no need to feel unsafe

Why take a taxi? You can board a bus in Cairo to Luxor, and then take a very confortable train from Luxor to Aswan...Pretty cheap

"Why take a taxi?"

Why indeed?? Officially, tourists travelling between Cairo and Luxor/Aswan are supposed to use the 'sleeper' train or plane with (depending on the security situation at the time) Middle Egypt being someing of a no-go area for foreigners. If a tourist wants to chance his/her luck and get from Cairo to Luxor on the cheap, ordinary trains are a faster, generally better and certainly more comfortable bet than the busses.

We got the day train from Cairo last month, left at 8am, booked online, no problems at all, very pleasant trip to Luxor. Just go to the platform, get on the train, reserved seat, comfortable and cleaner than some countries! Also got the train Luxor to Aswan, bought ticket at station ( can't do that for trains from Cairo) only problem being that train came from Cairo and was two hours late!
