View of the Nile and the city - Best spots for photography

Hello there!

Was wondering if anyone could advise where was the pic of the Nile river taken? www.flickr.com/photos/chrisjunker/5117063182/

Or, any recommendations on the best spot to view or capture a similar or even better panorama of the Nile river and the city?

Your kind valuable information is highly appreciated. Thank you very much in advance, and good day!

I always found a good spot for a photo of the Nile and Aswan was from the Aga Khans Mausoleum on the opposite side of the river. Nice high vantage point.

I am sure others will have their favourite spots.

You also get some wonderful views of Aswan from the Nobles Tombs area and Kubbet El Hawa (dome of the winds) at the very top of the hill above the Nobles Tombs - it's a wee bit of a climb but worth it.

Also a felucca on the river around sunset time, the sky various shades of pink and orange setting behind the big sand dunes.

Infact Aswan (and Egypt in general) is a photographers dream, even for a more point and shoot type photographer like me!

Pack extra memory cards !!

The picture is taken from Firyal Garden, at the end of the corniche, on the way up to the Old Cataract hotel and the Nubian Museum. The garden has a breathtaking close view of the archipelago and the Old Cataract hotel. The best time to take pictures there is at sunset.

Agree with previous posters and here are some other good spots:

The Suite extension at the Basma hotel, up on the hill. From up there you have a panoramic view of Aswan from all directions. The best spot that you can find in Aswan. The spot was used by National Geographic photographers couple of years ago.

The main terrace at the Old Cataract Hotel or King Fouad's Corner. This is one of the best spots to take pictures of the Elephantine Island and its surrounding.

The panoramic bar at the Mövenpick on Elephantine Island. The island is located just in the middle of Aswan. From up there you have also a panoramic view of the city from all directions. It is worth to go there for a drink.

I think that was taken using a zoom lens from the gardens.

You can take excellent sunset photos there, up and down the river and also across to Elephantine. An added bonus is the group of teachers who meet there each evening who run a kind of 'English Corner'.

As usual on these forums, some really good advice given here.

Suzie - is the 'wee' climb to kubbet el howa a rocky scramble, or are there steps or a reasonable path? I'm hoping that if I take my time, I'll manage it as quite a few people have said it's worth it. Thanks

Mofissio's suggestions are very helpful, as are others. The Basma Hotel from the top room terraces provide a different perspective. It's hard to find bad spots for photography in Aswan. My favourite is the views from The Tombs Of The Nobles. They are breathtaking. You can walk up to these or take a camel ride. I'd like to try walking to St Simeon's Monestry when next in Aswan, via the shorter route up. I wonder if anyone as tried ths? Is it possible without the security escort?
