Balloons latest again...

Hi One n All

Yet another diappointing update, I'm afraid. There hasn't been an official OK yet from the MOD/CAA to allowing the balloons to fly again from tomorrow 1st August as everybody had hoped. So until they get the official OK they have to stay on the ground. Much disappointment as they'd hoped to start earning some wages again.

As much as it's disappointing for us visitors, it must be phenomenally frustrating for the people who's livelihoods depend on this. They're paying out to this guy and that guy and yet they're still not able to earn any money. You have to wonder whether some will not be able to restart business unless they get a break soon.

Oooh, too bad!

(And, as Wanderer said, certainly for the locals as well!!)

But thanks for the update, anyway...

There should have been another meeting in Cairo the other day to sort out the passenger fees which will be paid to the CAA, but the meeting was cancelled.

Nothing will happen until this meeting has taken place.

Hi Shareen

What does this development mean? That someone in the CAA wants a share of all the passenger fees paid for flights from now on - when it's the companies, not the CAA, which pay for all the very expensive equipment involved and pay all the staff costs?? Hardly seems very fair...

Come on Jan!!!

Since when has ANY government been fair? Ask yourself who stole from the private pension funds which so many of us paid into for years in the UK. The "Robber Barons" Anthony Blair and Gordon Brown come to mind immediately.

Regards,

Edward.

Hi Edward

Very true - but this just seems a little excessive in view of the money they've already been forced to pay for the pilots' "refresher course" - 1,000USD per pilot which makes 45,000USD already into the pockets of the Egyptian Government. And I think they've yet to get their pilots' licences back - which means they can't work anywhere else in the world either.

Sorry but it's time the CAA/Government started playing a little fairer on this issue, I feel.

As Edward says Jan, sounds like any other government to me, using any excuse they can dream up, be it 'global warming', 'health & safety' or any other excuse to interfere with peoples lives and make a 'quick buck'.
