Sheraton or Hilton for Christmas break 2011

I have trawled through this website and am over loaded with information - thank you to all the advice/hints/tips/etc.

We have decided to come over Christmas and now need to decide which one - Sheraton or Hilton.

We are a family of 4 with 2 older teenagers. We aim to do some sight seeing but also relax in the hotel and around the pool. We are happy with the temperature (after an English summer anywhere is hotter) and appreciate it will get cooler in the evening.

We would prefer to do B&B and eat out in local restaurants so from that point of view I wonder if the Sheraton would be better from a location point of view.

However, Hilton looks fantastic and also has the bonus of a gym.

Any comments would be welcome...

thank you!

If you can afford it, the Hilton is fantastic...if a bit out of town...and at least double the prices of the Sheraton for rooms and food.

You can walk from the Sheraton to Little England for the usual Brit eating places...

Your call - have a great Christmas in Luxor!

PS - from a report a few days ago on the Hilton..((.Food & drink prices are high ( LE27 for a 1.5 litre bottle of water after tax & service charge))

If you can manage the cost, the Hilton, without doubt, is the better hotel - I have stayed at both - as it is genuinely 5 star. Yes, the food prices are higher than the Sheraton but were well worth it as the food quality was above any other hotel (sorry, WP!).

Although the bottled water was LE27, you get a free 50ml bottle per person per day, as well as tea/coffee making facilities in the rooms - rare in Luxor - and the service charges remove the obligation to tip constantly - staff do not hover expectantly at all

The shuttle bus runs regularly through the evening so you could get into the town without using taxis.
