Best tombs to visit

I`m visiting Luxor next week and would appreciate some advice on which are the best tombs to see in the Valley of the Kings and Queens.

very much depends on what tombs are open, Siptah and Ramses 4 are quite ok, maybe you should go visit Ay's tomb in the West Valley, and do some of the nobles as imho they are more impressive

KV34 (Thutmosis III) if it's open and you can hack the stairs. It's also worth paying the extra 50LE for KV9 (Ramesses V/VI), better IMHO than paying 100LE for KV62 (King Tut).

VOQ - only 3 or 4 open tombs, so see them all, it doesn't take long

As for the Noble's tombs, try Sennofer/Rehkmire, Roy/Shuroy, and Ramose (tickets for these are sold in groups).

A few good websites to plan which tombs to visit are:-

Make a list of the tombs you would most like to see (Tombs such as KV17 - Seti I has been closed for years and is unlikely to open to the general public any time soon / if ever again)

There will be a list of the open tombs in the visitors centre, have a look on the day you visit and then see which of the open ones are on your list as the tombs can open and close with short notice.

Whatever ones are open you won't be disappointed!!!!!

My favourites are:

KV9 - Ramses V & VI (well worth the extra 50LE entrance fee)

KV34 - Tuthmosis III

KV14 - Tausert and Setnakht

KV23 - Ay (in the Western Valley - an extra 25LE)

KV8 - Merenptah

I have been fortunate enough to visit the Tomb of Seti 1st (now long closed to the public) but it took several visits before I was able to visit Horemhebs (KV 57) because it simply wasn't open. I second what Suzie says about KV9 being worth the extra money because it is a rather stunning tomb.

I was lucky enough to have KV9 - Ramses V & VI, all to myself for 15 minutes when I was there last week.

It seems that most of those on bus tours only do the 3 included tombs!! (That's what my guide told me)
