Champions League Matches in Luxor

What are some good places to catch a Champions League match while in Luxor? (Preferably a non-Manchester United stronghold, as I'll be rooting for Real Madrid, and know they're none too happy with us right now.) I saw a similar question from 2009, but figured places might have opened/closed since then. Thanks!

There is no such think as a Manchester United stronghold in Luxor. You seem to be under the misapprehension that there are loads of bars in Luxor (there isn't). Your hotel may show the football, there are also a couple of other bars around the Nile Palace Hotels area (Murphys and The Kings Head), The Regal by The Fotune Cookie may show it, otherwise there are a couple of bars, JJs and Genisis bar (both in Karnak that MAY show it.

Sorry couldn't be more helpful.

There is also more than a pretty good chance that any major football game will be shown on the big screen TVs at Al-Andaleeb cafe which is near the Morris hotel.

However, this is not a 'tourist' bar, (although tourists are very welcome there) and is frequented by almost 100% local Egyptians, but is spotlessly clean and modern.

Consequentally, they do not sell alcohol, but do a wide range of coffees, non alcoholic cocktails, soft drinks, etc, and do the BEST Shisha in Luxor, bar none !

While football doesn't interest me at all, I did notice it being shown on the TV in the Regal Lounge above the Fortune Cookie Restaurant while I was in Luxor last week. There's also a wee cafe at the back gates of the Winter Palace Hotel called Caffe Moka. It's a great wee place, clean and sells beer, spirits, soft drinks and shisha, and it too seems to specialise in football on the TV. Mind you, it would probably all be in Egyptian which doesn't make any difference to me (it's all Greek to me in any case - lol), but it may be another option. The local owner was really dead chuffed to be attracting visitors to his wee bar and gave us a great welcome.

If you opt for the cafe but fancy a beer at halftime, the Pub 2000 is across the street from the Morris. They will be showing the game (or will if you ask) but the TV at the cafe is rather better. The rooftop bar/restaurant at the St Joseph’s hotel will also show the game but its evening hours may not be extended by the time you are there. Personally, if the St Joseph isn’t open at game time, I would watch it at the Pub 2000 or the King’s Head.

As for Man U “strongholds”, there (as said) aren’t any as such but that doesn’t mean you might not run across a few supporters who just happen to be in town at the time. (I have an Egyptian friend who earned a few unkind remarks from a couple of visiting Liverpool supporters when he wore a Man U shirt he had just been given as a present.) Any sort of serious trouble, however, is very unlikely.
