MS REGENT,First Choice cruise.

We are planning to do a Nile cruise next January and are really looking forward to it. However, our interests lie very much in the Egyptian way of life along the river banks as well as the ancient culture. Have to confess that the odd day lying on deck, drink in hand, watching the world go by tends to be rather more appealing than rising at death o'clock every morning to climb aboard a coach ! Can anyone advise how much sailing is done during daylight hours, as many European river tours we've looked at tend to make much of the fact that they travel at night to allow for daytime excursions - Not what we want at all.

When I went on a 3 day cruise in April, there was only 1 day when we cruised during daylight hours.

We boarded the boat in Luxor at Tuesday Lunchtime (we cruised up the river for around 2 hours to allow for afternoon tea on Tuesday). Th cruise set sail from Luxor at 5.30pm on Wednesday evening, stopping at Esna overnight. It sailed at 6.30am on Thursday to Edfu (getting there at 9.00am), it sailed again from Edfu to Kom Ombo (at 11.30am), then from Kom Ombo to Aswan (during night hours).

So for the whole 3 days, we spent around 10 hours or so sailing during daylight hours. I am not sure about the return journey.

I hope that helps.

Thank you very much for your reply. Much as we thought. Still researching different cruises and options.
