Thunder, lightning, hailstones and rain!

Around 8pm local time there was a thunder storm here with heavy rain. We were able to see the West Bank clearly in the flashes of forked lightning.

Later, it broke out again with enormous hailstones that were surprisingly painful. The ground looked like it had been snowing.

Great excitement at the rain, I saw children dancing and trying to catch raindrops in their mouths!

I hope you took some photos and will share them. That is definitely a very rare event for Luxor.

During some past storm events damage was done in the Valley of the Kings. Have you heard how things went with your storm?

It rained on Saturday, and frequently today, Sunday. Right now the palms outside our room look like Torquay in March, not Luxor. The local fishermen have been busy in the reed beds across the river.

I am unable to post photos until I get home as I did not pack the cable for my almost antique digi camera. Jane Akshar has photos on her blog.

The water is causing problems as drains are few and far between so the streets are a minefield of puddles of diluted horse dung. Also, many roofs leak -we were in the Savoy Street bazaar last night and that was very wet.

Nah its not, lol.

Sorry Nefatari.

However the novelty wears off quite quick with flooded streets etc as Divadarling states.

Does anyone know when Luxor last got hail? It would seem to me that it should be a rather larger rarity.

Not sure about Luxor! But we were on a Red Sea Cruise 2 years ago and had booked to go on the trip to Petra which was cancelled due to the roads being blocked by snow!

Lol Ras I said "almost". It looks so alien in Luxor, the locals didn't look like they were enjoying it;)
