Is 2 weeks enough between Kenya and Uganda?

I had originally planned on taking a two week trip to Kenya. I have no interest in safaris or other major tourist sites, so planned on a combination of volunteering (though admittedly I haven't found a place to do that yet) and wandering. But then I got the idea of splitting the trip up between Kenya and crossing into Uganda, spending a week in each. I don't want to be rushed, and would like to absorb as much as possible (although I know that's hard in a short period of time). Does it make sense and is it possible to split the trip up, or will I end up missing the opportunity of enjoying one of the countries as much as possible by trying to do too much?

I think the answer depends on where you want to go and what you want to see.

As for volunteering, what useful kind of contribution do you expect to make in only a few days?

Hi alelanuto,

Is very clear you have 2weeks to spend in Kenya or Uganda as per mentioned word above. Since you are NOT interested in doing safaris or any other major tourist site seeing. You should focus on volunteering as you mentioned and if this is what you want then should do it in one country and I recommend you spend your volunteer time for 2weeks in Kenya since I don't know much about Uganda as I do to Kenya volunteer work in Africa is easy if you don't have medical expertise which can make you volunteer at the medical center in the rural area. You can volunteer as English teacher by teaching at the Children home school or village school which is under community management. check your inbox to see mail which will lead you to place you can volunteer they will help you with more info on volunteer than I

Very good points. I don't really have much of an intinerary and I know that my impact would be limited for just a few days. I'm really just trying to understand what is feasible to accomplish/do in the short time that I have. Generally when I travel I try to avoid most tourist destinations and to be around everyday life as much as posisble, obviously only under circumstances where I'm not being intrusive.

Your profile gives nothing away!! Are you male or female? Approx age? Have you been to Africa before? What sort of budget do you have?

Do you have any particular skills you feel you can share?

Be very aware that you cannot work on a tourist visa and this includes volunteering...

There's no point in visiting East Africa unless you go on safari. I can guarantee that you'll no matter how disinterested you may feel now. I've never met anyone who didn't think that their African safari wasn't the most exciting, fun, and educational experience of their entire life. I remember my own initial reticence to go on safari, but since i went I've become quite addicted. I now have gone on 11 safaris the longest of which lasted two months. I'll be going on 2 more safaris this year. I've also already planned for 2018.

If you wish to do volunteer work, you should spend at least a month. You'll need that long to achieve anything.

If you are looking to volunteer in Kenya/Uganda... surely you will land in Nairobi? If so contact Jack Bambo with http://www.lightschooluriri.org/ . He is located in Nairobi but runs a school in Uriri (Migori County), Kenya. Depending on your budget you could take an over night bus to Kisumu and on to Uganda. I have known Jack for 10 years wonderful man. He hosts volunteers all year around. There is an American man approx mid twenties living there now that could help guide you to Uganda once you are ready I am sure.

I would suggest you visit either Nairobi or Uganda for one week. Then two weeks you will have checked and see the Organizations that do volunteering work which you can do for about two weeks. Have a safe journey to Kenya.

Dear Alelanuto,

It's good that you have a passion in charity and volunteering, to my aspect and experience i think 2 weeks volunteering in 2 countries will be a rush and you already said you do not want to rush. If it was for safaris or just a relaxation vacation then it would be ok to do 2 countries. For you to do something good that will leave a lifetime mark in your life and also in the lives of the people you will be working for, i advice you choose only one country between Kenya and Uganda

Hi Alelanuto

If you're still working out your trip and want to volunteer but see a bit of Kenya too (incl a short safari) try looking at http://www.kidogoadventure.com
