Masai Mara or Tsavo East/West?

Which will better for 'big five' game viewing at the end of Nov? If it's the same, which will be less with tourists? Thanks!

Nothing is guaranteed! The short rains are in November so this could affect game viewing too.

The Mara is the size of the Isle of Wight and Tsavo is larger than Wales. You can get lost far easier in tsavo.

Hope it doesn't rain as much in Nov as Wales....!!

The reason we ask is if it's quieter in Tsavo that time of year and the game viewing is roughly the same - we'll probable try to get a 4 nights one way safari to Mombasa, so we can be start our 2nd week on the beach!!

depending what you MUST see. if you are interested in game only the masai mara has the most game on a smal area.

If you go to Tsavo East and Tsavo West (if you have 4 Days I advise you to add the Amoseli) you see more different land scapes together with the game. But different landscapes then the Mara.

or if you can add some day you fly to mara, drive to naivasha, then to Amboseli and Tsavo west but this way you would need at least 5 nights or more.

enjoy your trip

Thanks,

Will see what trips we can book...

Can't seems to find many tours for 4-5 nights to Tsavo and drop off at Mombasa? Do we have to do a private safari?

A good safari company will do an itinerary to suit you specifically on a private basis. Get them to give you a price. You can stay as long as you want in any lodge.

most of the Tourist who go to Tsavo are on a package tour in Mombasa, so their logistic is allways Mombasa bach to Mombasa

If you have four days and like to start in nairobi,

it would go as follows:

1. Day Amboseli Kibo Safari Camp

2. Day Tsavo West Ngulia Safari Lodge

3. Day Tsavo East Voi Safari Lodge

4. Day arrive in Mombasa lunch time

Enjoy your trip

Sorry, more questions...

Just want to find out which tour company uses open sided jeeps instead of pop up top van for game drives (in Mara and Tsavo)? Or are they only offered from game lodges themselves?

Thanks!

The only place I've seen them used around Mombasa is for trips to Mwaluganje elephant sanctuary. I wouldn't fancy hurtling along the Mombasa - Nairobi highway at 70 mph in an open sided jeep!

In and around the lodges in the Mara they are used. Safari's to Tsavo tend to be in either a proper jeep (with sides) or a safari bus. The bus being purpose built is far better for comfort, space and game viewing.

The open vehicles don't work for the usual Kenya safari itineraries where you are driven from place to place. And, even at camps that provide their own vehicles, the true open vehicles such as those used in southern Africa safari camps are uncommon.

You asked about the Mara Sarova: it's a large complex, with beautiful grounds, pool, public areas. Accommodations are in pretty nice tents that have good furnishings and bathrooms. If you stay there and have a choice, I suggest asking for a tent nearer the main buildings, because the farthest ones are quite a little hike up the hill.
