First Timers

We are hoping to visit Kenya in March next year but are not sure which area to head for. Are there any good snorkelling beaches? Do any of the hotels have evening entertainment?

Thanks for the advice

The hotels do have evening entertainment . It will vary from hotel to hotel. I have only stayed in the North of Mombasa but the experts will be able to advise you once you can tell them what your likes and dislikes are. You will love Kenya. The people are very friendly and the country is wonderful.

Kenya beach holidays tend to centre around Mombasa. We went fo rthe first time last month.

South of Mombasa the reef is about 500m off the beach. Locals will run you out to the best snorkelling spots for a few hours in their little out-rigger canoes.

Various trips go to the marine park (Kisite) a bit further south near Shimoni. Very good snorkelling (or gentle diving) here.

Are you aware that March is coming up to the main rainy season? Check the likely weather patterns carefully.

Safaris from this area concentrate on the Tsavo reserves. Reasonable variety of wildlife and we saw just about everything (all 3 big cats, buffalo, elelphant and rhino, gazelles, other antelope, giraffe, hippo, croc, ostrich, various monkeys and baboons) in a few days - but the best places, eg Masai Mara, are nearer Nairobi, quite a way inland.
