Travel Adaptors Needed??

Hi,

We are coming to Kenya next week & are both really looking forward to it.

We have a few questions tho..

Do we need Travel Adaptors? We are staying at the Voyager Beach Resort & doing a 3 night Safari,Kenyan Encounters. Will we need any adaptors so we can charge our cameras etc whilst on our holiday?

Just double checking it's 25 Dollars each for the Visa on arrival & 20 dollars each for when we leave?

Kind Regards,

Ian

Are you from the UK? If so then electrical adaptors aren't needed. Kenya uses the same 3 pin plugs/sockets as we use in the UK. I would suggest you take one of the square block things that allow you to plug a few things into one socket as there are never enough sockets for all gadgets. Charging cameras, phones etc isn't a problem at Voyager although on safari you may be restricted to when the camp/lodge has electricity (many use a generator at set hours).

Visa for this year as quoted. Departure tax not applicable to scheduled flights - are you travelling on a charter? First Choice/Thomson don't include it in their ticket price so you pay at the check in desk on departure from Mombasa..

Yeah we are from the UK and we are travelling with Thomson Airways on a Charter Flight.

Thanks for your advice on the plug situation, its mainly on Safari that we are worried about to be honest, don't want our camera batteries to die and then not be able to charge them in the lodges/tents we are staying in.

So would you say not to bring any adaptors of any kind with us??

Thanks again.

As Tf says - the sockets here are exactly the same as in the UK, as she also says one of those block multi-sockets will allow you to charge camera, phone and ipod at the same time. Better still, although bulkier to carry, a 4 gang extension with surge protector built in, especially if you are bringing a lap top to download your photos. The power supply is erratic here and especially when it returns after a power cut the surge can damage equipment

Hi www.maplin.co.uk/Module.aspx?ModuleNo=31304

3 way surge protector, similiar size of a standard 3 way adaptor, idea for travelling. Surge protection is an absolute must for travel in Africa, although many items will stand a surge, lap tops in particular are very succeptable, and for a few quid, you can save a lot of heartache! (not to mention the expense)

C-C,

its not a must just recommended if you have sensitive electronic equipment like a laptop. Once I stupidly left my mp3 player recharging plugged direct into a wall socket as the protected extensions were all full. We had a power cut while we were out and the surge when it returned melted the transformer in the plug and burnt out the hard drive in the player.

The one from Maplins that Mr Ivan posted is ideal for travelling but there is a range of the ones with an extension lead on Amazon

I'm not sure what you mean in your question about batteries and chargers, these extensions are so you can use your chargers, etc. Only you can know what type of batteries your equipment uses, or do you mean where can you get standard AA or AAA batteries and charger? If so any supermarket or department store sells them, or you can get them from Amazon - just put 'battery charger and batteries' into the search box
