Never eat Jelly 'cus it wobbles in your belly.....

I'm thinking of buying and giving my Kenyan friends a Jelly Mould, so they can make Milk Jelly/Blancmange for their daughter’s birthday.

Could someone please advise me if these items are readily available in largish towns (away from the tourists places) in Kenya.

Tinned Evaporated Milk?

Jelly - in block form?

Blancmange?

Thanx

Hi MMS

I've seen all three at some point or other in my travels, usually, as you say, in main towns - Nakumatt mainly.

Haven't seen many moulds though!! Nice idea.

Thanx for that.

When I'd contacted my friends they weren't sure what jelly was.

I'll be taking a mould with me (when I find one) a train (Gari la moshi) would be nice.

Thanx again

Buy a Cake tin - you can make a good solid blancmange in one of these

What I would say is that jelly is quite difficult to get right in hot climates, it often remains a bit runny so you end up not adding as much liquid and end up with chewy jelly! Also, make sure that your friends have a fridge, often locals don't have one.

don't have problems making jelly in Uganda! You would probably find some imported South African brands - Moir is the one we use - in powder form, perfectly acceptable jelly!

What a kind gesture for your friends!
