If your fears are regarding the recent kidnaps it is over 300 klm from Diani beach to the area considered at risk near Somalia. I will be visiting Galu in November and have no fears of doing so. The incidents of trouble are much much closer to the Somali border. Visit the FCO website for more detailed advice:

Some travellers seem to leave their senses at home when they go on holiday. Take reasonable precautions of your personal safety like you would do where you live now and you will have little cause for concern.

Hi,

There never was a risk of kidnapping at Diani, it was too far from the border. The risk of kidnapping anyway has hugely diminished due to the increased security forces presence in the border area, including the Kenyan and French navies.

The Kenyan army has taken the port town that the kidnappers operated out of and is preparing to launch an attack on one of Al Shabaab's main strongholds.

However, Al Shabaab have threatened reprisals, some local members launched grenade attacks on Nairobi but were quickly found and arrested. There is an unspecified risk that Al Shabaab might make a terrorist attack somewhere, and most likely would aim for a high profile target. Most of the likely targets are in Nairobi, but no-one knows if, when and where they would strike. If they do for those affected like any attack anywhere in the world it would be a question of being in the wrong place at the wrong time.

in the mean time security has been raised but life goes on as normal. There are thousands of tourists here who are relaxed and just getting on with enjoying their holidays

Just use standard precautions. The Kenyan Gov't has stepped up safety at the major resorts, including the popular beaches. You are likely to see police or army guards (askaris) there to provide extra protection. So there is an excellent chance of having a nice time.!

Please use the normal precautions - which include not wandering away from your tourist area at night. This is a general rule of safety, and I would give it to you no matter where you traveled in Africa. So there shouldn't be a problem - since there are usually nice facilities if you are booked into a good lodge. Fun things to do at your hotel!! Good luck!
