We are widely travelled, wild-life enthusiasts, and had been planning a trip to Africa for a long time. So this June Kenya was it! After extensive web research we selected Bushtroop Tours and Safaris to plan and coordinate our travel in Kenya.
We landed in Nairobi, feeling tired and apprehensive in an alien land there. But there was Jacqueline from Bushtroop safaris-an angel in disguise-who had come personally to the airport to offer us a very warm, motherly welcome! Within a few hours of meeting and talking to this sincere, genuine and affectionate host all our concerns about our travel in Kenya over the next 10 days were laid to rest. We soon fell in love with the country and its friendly people and looked forward to an exciting time.
Jacqueline and Eric briefed us about our plan over the next 10 days. Even as we started our trip with our driver Jimmy, Jacqueline was constantly in touch with us through phone enquiring about our comforts and concerns if any. Depending on our feedback she even accommodated a few changes in our plan. With her constant supervision we did not have to worry about the logistics of time management, accommodation, travel, food etc and could concentrate on the wild-life, beauty and mystique of this blessed country.
Jimmy was an adventurous and knowledgeable guy, passionate about wild-life. He kept us amused with local banter and melodious Kenyan folk music in our vehicle. We travelled across Kenya and covered Amboseli, Nakuru, Lake Baringo, Naivasha and Masai Mara. Having understood that we were not the typical tourists in an hurry to see only the Big Five and get back to the hotel-he spotted so many birds and animals (that we had to scour our wild-life books to know some of their names) and patiently halted our safari van to enable us to click magnificent pictures. It is no wonder that apart from the usual elephants, lions, cheetah, giraffe, antelopes, hippos, zebra, hyenas, jackals, bustards, hornbills and even the elusive leopard, we also have fabulous videos and shots of rare-to-spot wild-life like the Klipspringer (small African antelope), Bateleur, Lappet faced Vulture, Serval Cat, Sand grouse, Rock Hyrax, banded mongoose, to name a few. The breath-taking flamingos’ sight at Naivasha still feels like a dream.
There is such an abundance of wild-life in this beautiful African country that is waiting to be explored. It is crucial to travel with a knowledgeable driver who does not just ferry you around in a hurry but is equally passionate about the wildlife to get excited at every new find in the wild. We were fortunate to have Jimmy-without whom we would have missed so many magnificent birds and wildlife.
Every moment of our stay in Kenya was an out of the world experience which we will cherish for many years to come. All thanks to the personal care and warmth from Jacqueline, Eric and team we are already planning our next trip to Kenya! We wholeheartedly recommend Bushtroop tours and safaris to other true-blue wild-life lovers.
