Tsavo east, or lake Nakuru

Working with glorious safaris on a two week, mid september, leisurlely safari, visiting Masai Mara, Amboseli , and Samburu, three nights each. I have an option of either two nights Tsavo East, or Lake Nakuru. I'm an not a birder, if that makes a difference. I see one is dry, the other more green. Need some advise here. Not sure which to choose... Would be either flamingo hill lodge in lake Nakuru, or Ashnil Aruba lodge in Tsavo.

Thanks!

I prefer Lake Nakuru. You will have great sighting of Rhino, good chance of seeing Leopard, Rothschild Giraffe, and loads of birds (you don't need to be a birder to enjoy). However Flamingo Hill gets noisy with outside noise from the village. Especially on weekends you can hear music and disco's into the wee hours of the night.

Are you driving between parks? Lake Nakuru may fit more easily and Lake Nakuru NP is a great place - you are almost guaranteed to see rhino there! I wish I had stayed 2 nights.

However, Tsavo is my fave and I do rate it highly.

I know I've not helped but if you're driving and not flying, then go for Nakuru - ask Shadrack for a room at Sarova Lion HIll if its free, hopefully it won't be much more expensive than Flamingo Hill.

I've used Glorious twice so you'll have fun either way :-)

Have not been to Tsavo yet (next trip) but have been to Nakuru twice and it has never been disappointing. Have seen leopards both visits and a wide variety of other animals. I'd agree with the above. Lion Hill is very nice. Good food and great location. Will be staying here next trip. If you go to Lake Nakuru, be sure to stop at Observation Hill (especially if it is a clear day). You will get a great view.

Some people love Tsavo East but I am in the hate camp, done it 3 times and seen very little every time, animals have been just so far off track. Nakuru is compact and I love it, others won't. Places to stay in Nakuru, however, are quite limited whereas Tsavo has some great camps.

Difficult to say what would be right for your needs but Nakuru provides a very different safari environment compared to the other parks/ reserves that you will be visiting. I'd say that you could be disappointed in Tsavo East if visiting after the Mara.

I counted 2 for Lake Nakuru and 1 for Tsavo before reply 6. Sounds like they prefer Nakuru also.

Depending on where you stay, you feel the real adventure, the real wild, if you like, in Tsavo. You won't get that in the Mara despite the abundant game - something really raw about Tsavo. Would have loved to have been there 40+ years ago...

Perhaps its the working for sightings - all the animals are there, you just have to be lucky :-)

WE have done Tsavo 18 times and not one safari is the same.

Lake Nakuru when we went there was an abundance of flamingos (not now I believe) but plenty Rhino

I am with Leeds Mad Tsavo East and West if lucky you can see a lot of animals or unlucky.

We always go to Tsavo in the spring time and always lucky.!!

Just my personal view!!

If you are going to Tsavo from Amboseli then you've much less of a drive than going from Nairobi. If your choice of Nakuru or Tsavo is leaving from Nairobi then Nakuru makes the most sense, so much less driving. Both are great places.

You will love Samburu too, one of our favorites.
