I just heard on the BBC World News that although the US is closing some of its embassies in African countries until Aug 10 there had been "no new security threat"

I'm going at the end of Aug and not going to worry about it unless something specific is mentioned/happens...in any case if anything does happen the TO will amend travel arrangements e.g. Those holidaying in Egypt are no longer being offered excursions that go to the area affected by the demonstrations in Luxor region

Safety is important while traveling to any new destination. Kenya has been safe now for quite a while...August is here with us and everything is ok.

I understand that it is the Middle East and North African countries that are primarily affected. The major fire at JKIA is likely to cause a lot of disruption though, at least in the short term.

we are also going in august (about 2 weeks time) it will be our forth time this year, we stay at bamburi beach hotel, we allways feel safe and secure, if you venture out at night use a taxi, same as at home, during the day we use the matatus (buses) and we venture out all the time.
