Yellow fever.. Doctor says now!?!?!

Hay.. I'm going to kenya in October and after coming on here a few times everyone has said yellow fever jab is a defo.

After visiting my doctor this week I was told that there's no pint getting it unless I'm going south.. And inland. I'm staying in dianie beach.. Am I missing something here??? Thank you x

Unless you plan to go to Tanzania, there is no requirement for yellow fever vaccination by the Kenyan authorities. Moreover, yellow fever cases have not been reported for years now, let it be the case for years to come! It is up to you of course and medical advice is needed, but it is not really needed. Malaria tablets on the other hand are really a must for visitors, especially low lands and the coast.

Have a fantastic trip,

Just to back up what Larissa is saying, there has only ever been one outbreak of YF in Kenya, in a remote part of the Rift Valley, getting on for 20 years ago. There is *no* requirement for the jab if you're just flying in from a "non-Yellow Fever" country, eg one in Europe. Only if you're crossing a border into Kenya.

Here's the map: Kenya is split in two (how does that work, you may ask!):

If you're only going to Diani Beach, just enjoy your trip - there's no need for this expensive, profitable jab. Big Pharma's shareholders have been doing very nicely out of it for years.

re other tips - For lots of useful information have a look at the FAQS on the right of the forum pages (eg this page, the Mombasa Forum page and the Diani beach forum page) - there is lots more info on Yellow Fever for example

PS I'm mystified how you picked up the idea from this forum that Yellow fever is a defo, the message is always quite the opposite, that if you are coming direct to Kenya and returning directly home you don't need it, the only time we tell people it is a defo is if they are going from Kenya to a country that will demand the the certificate such as Tanzania
