Recommendations safari fully escorted from australia

Hi There, This may have been asked many times before, I have searched but have not found what I am looking for, sorry in advance.

My parents (75 ish from Australia) are looking for a guided "Safari" tour of africa (not interested in South Africa), possible options Kenya and/or Tanzania. Fully escorted and probably private lodge due to age.

They want to spend 10-12 days out in the parks, staying/lodging in the parks. I understand there are luxury camp options available as well. Any advice would be much appreciated.

I can probably get them to Africa (Nairobi for example) then the tour company can take over form there.

Thanks

Darren

Hi Darren,

Check out APT African Tours.www.aptouring.com.au

They are fully inclusive luxury tours suitable for your parents. My husband and I travelled with them last year and it was one of our best travel experiences.

Good luck.

By "fully escorted" I assume you mean someone who travels with them all of the way. This may not be necessary.

You can do safaris by road or by air. By road, they would have their own driver/guide who drives them to all of the parks, takes them on game drives while there etc. So I guess that's "fully escorted". However, road journeys can be long and exhausting, and a safari by road may not be the best option for your parents. My parents are not quite that old and sometimes come on safari with me, and I know they find long road journeys tiring so I always avoid them.

The alternative is by air, where they will fly between parks, and stay at all inclusive camps where game drives will be with the camp's vehicles and guides, possibly shared with other guests. I believe there are companies that offer those itineraries as a group with an escort, but frankly I think this is a complete waste of money and being in a group takes away from the experience. A specialist tour operator can tailor make a trip just for them, and each camp will look after them from picking them up at the airstrip to dropping them off and putting them on a plane to the next location, where they will be picked up at the airstrip by the next camp. There's really no need for an escorted tour for that sort of trip, and it will only add a premium to the price, plus they will be stuck with a group itinerary that can't be tailored to their needs.

The above comments apply to Kenya, but you also mention Tanzania. If they went to Tanzania, specifically the "Northern Circuit", I wouldn't necessarily rule out the "by road" option, as there is a circuit of parks that are much closer together.

For specific tour operators, I am sure there are some in Australia. I've used Expert Africa in the UK for a number of tailor made trips, mainly in Zambia and Southern Tanzania. For the "by road" option, especially in Northern Tanzania, many people go to local companies and I'm sure you can find some suggestions on the Tanzania forum.

stokeygirl is spot on re escorted (group) or private, where even with the latter you're well taken care of and everyone knows where you are. Why bother with a group on their set routing and accomm. And considering the distance you travel will need at least 1day after arrival to catch your breath.

When do your folks plan to travel as prices are seasonal... also some areas better than others depending on time of year, Also know that with 10/days it is not recommended to try even visiting both countries regardless how close they appear on a map,

You can, however, if choosing to fly between areas can select two (2) areas each country and see more wildlife than can be imagined. And if deciding to fly doesn't necessarily add that much to the cost, but is sure more comfortable.

There are many options available, so you do have some research to do.

Tour H >>but if they are doing the road trips, I suggest the northern frontier district, Tsavo, Amboseli, Samburu >>

Really? You appear turned around as Tsavo is southwest of Nairobi about a 5-6/hr rd trip. Amboseli is on the border with Tanzania (south) though not far from Tsavo. Only Samburu is somewhat near the northern frontier and at least a 5-6/hr road trip from Nairobi.

And before we all toss out names of lovely properties, most all are relatively expensive thus would be nice to have an idea of your parent's budget?
