1 week Safari

Hi, I'm looking at a Safari for backpacker types (more interested in seeing and getting closer to the animals rather than luxury accommodation etc) around the last week in March. According to trip advisor map I've covered 39% of the world but almost none of that is in Africa!

I'm a total Africa newbie, can anyone recommend somewhere where I can see the big five, and as much else as possible for a budget of about 2k including flights? Camping isn't a problem, or fairly low end hostels. Prefer running water at least though....

Many thanks

Hola thecountLincoln,

I will advise Kenya and you book the camping safari. Camping safari specially in Masai mara is very comfortable, almost of the tents are permanent tents with beds and beddings, running water is available. With you budget i will recommend not more than a 4 days safari to fit your 2k including flights. Most of the outfitter will go for not lower than $140 per day. Goodluck.

When you say a budget of 2k, is that £ or $? Remember that park fees will be around $80 per day.

To see 4 of the big 5, Masai Mara has great chances. Leopard and Rhino - Lake Nakuru. So a 4-5 night safari that incorporates the two parks should give you high chances of encountering the big five.

As today is 15th April, and you wish to travel last wk March... assume that 2015?

If also to include int'l fare... FROM WHICH COUNTRY? If North America, you'll probably spend your entire budget on this.

Fares for '15 should be published end Apr or mid-May '14. Usually about 330/days prior expected travel.
