Best place for a solo having dinner in Nairobi

Can't wait till I set foot in Kenya later this year. Looking for a suggestion for dinner in Nairobi. I am traveling alone, but have a driver the entire day. I plan on going to the elephant orphanage in the evening to see my foster. I'd like to have dinner afterwards. Any suggestions? It will be my only dinner in Nairobi. Unfortunately, I'm not very adventurous when it come to trying new foods...no gator or ostrich or anything game for me. If I really like my driver, would it be improper to invite him to have dinner with me? I'm a senior, so just looking for company....

Thanks

Karen Blixen Coffee Garden food is excellent. Karen is next township from Langata. There's Open House for excellent Indian food also in Karen. ....and you might have heard of the famous Carnivore for Carvery +Ala Carte menu.

Hi bobbi, where will you be staying? Also it is perfectly fine to ask your driver to join you for dinner. It would make for a great evening of swapping stories.

Bobbi, by the time you finish with the elephants, it will be around 6 / 6.30 pm. Traffic will be very heavy in all directions. You could head to The Galleria Shopping Centre which is close to Daphne Sheldricks. There are several cafe's in there that serve decent food - Art Cafe or Java. Have dinner and then head to Eka, avoiding traffic.

Eka has a (in my experience) pretty good restaurant of its own, and decent seating for solo diners. Wouldn't waste money on Karen Blixen Coffee Garden; over-priced, glacially-slow service and poor-quality food IMHO. Also in the opposite direction from your hotel. Carnivore perfectly adequate but very touristy and probably not so great for a solo diner. Java House at Galleria serves good-quality, well-priced food in a clean, comfortable environment and is on the way back to Eka. Depending on budget, it would also probably be much more reasonable to eat there than at the hotel. In your shoes, I'd probably go with RWA's suggestion (Java House or ArtCaffe), wait out the worst of the traffic and then head back to Eka after 8pm. Galleria is also only a stone's throw from Sheldrick.

Hi Bobbi,

I would eat at Talisman! It is rated number one on Tripadvisor. It was fabulous. We have also eaten at Carnivore but we weren't as thrilled as Talisman. The atmosphere is great and the food wonderful. Might I recommend Simon Koech as a driver. We have used him several times while in Nairobi and have recommended him to many others who have used his services for the day. He is very knowledgeable about the roads and traffic in Nairobi and is very reasonably priced and trustworthy. He can also make airport transfers for you. You can reach him at info@dawnsafaris.co.ke. Tell him Kellie said hello! Enjoy your trip!

Restaurant at Panari is much like Carnivore and I think overpriiced for what was offered.

Eka and Ole Sereni are on the other side of the road (all 3 of these are the closest to JKIA where you arrive),, and most who have eaten at these claim their food is good.

If a Spurs (a chain) has opened in NBO, can advise that from when we were in South Africa - wide choice, good food and prices easy on the pocket.

Once in town, Talisman gets excellent reviews.

Do you have any preference in type of food desired.... there's a bit of everything in NBO?
