Best lodge for migration in Aug??

We are trying to book a 3day safari to the masai mara from Mombasa but need to find out which lodge is best to see the migration in August. Dont want to have to travel all day to get near to where we might see the migration to have to race off again cause the lodge is so far away.

Have read that the Mara Serena is good but where else? what about the Mara Safari lodge??

Budget small as usual!!

We were in the Mara during the last week in August this past year. We stayed at Bateleur Camp which is very, very pricey but we did stop at the Mara Serena to use the facilities. They are very close to a river crossing point and in a good location. These are not separate tented accomodations but the public space looked great. They are set up on a hill with stunning views.

I think the location is excellent. If you would like some pictures of their public areas please send me a PM with an e-mail address.

Medic_5 - Didn't you read OP indicating they were working with a small budget.

Bateleur is one of the most expensive camps in the Mara.

Serena Lodge is at a good position in the center of the Mara Triangle. There is a crossing point right down the hill in front of the lodge, but there are never any guarantees you'll see or have to drive to other crossing points.

There are other camps at more reasonable prices: Main Governor's, Kichwa Tembo on the west side of the Triangle. Intrepid's Camp on the east side of Triangle, but will be more expensive than the other two.

There's Fig Tree, or Porini Lion, or Kicheche Camps. You'll have to discuss with your operator what's available with consideration of your budget, as August is peak-season, so prices match.

Royal Mara is a lovely small camp with 6/large well appointed tents, all river facing. hippos frolicking below. Not far from a crossing point, maybe 30/min but a game drive on the way.

When booking make sure that where ever is booked is within the National Reserve - if it's not you may have a long drive to get to the 'action'.

I've been wondering-----if a booking is made on a hotel booking site (like Expedia or Travelocity) for a lodge/camp, will daily safaris be available at the lodge/camp to book (for extra fees, of course)? Full board is usually included but no mention is made of daily safaris being available.

You can book the Mara Serena Direct on their website and they have a special fly in package that includes 2 game drives a day. Just google their website and there should be a deal there or if you want to stay longer just drop them an email.

We are booked at Siana Springs Intrepids Camp - Masai Mara. Our tour booked this for us. Not sure of proximity to reserve.
