They started crossing into the Mara a couple of weeks ago, see this from Maasai Mara's facebook page this afternoon

'Note the convoy Running from Serengeti to Mara via sand River this morning....Thousands of wildebeests crossed for around 3 hours..'

Well you will see animals...lots of them If you are expecting HUGE herds (5000+) you might not see them on the mara. I've read that some late rains have slowed the migration (I am going Aug 26-Sept 3) but believe me you will see animals in numbers you will have not seen to this point in life.

We have just come back from Kenya and we were in the middle of the migration in the Masai Mara from 2nd - 5th August 2012 and YES, there were wildebeests everywhere as far as the eye could see on the plains, lots of lion action killing wildebeest in front of us, and we also witnessed a Mara river crossing, it was truely amazing!

At that time (a week ago), huge concentrations of wildebeests and zebras were found on the Narok side of the reserve right on the junction of Talek/Mara river next to Matira Bush Camp/Intrepids/Explorer and all the way to Fig Tree Camp!

Good luck & have a great trip!

We're going to be in the area in the beginning of Sept:

Sept 2-8: Serengeti (Maramboi and Olakira)

Sept 9-12: Masai Mara (Porini Lion)

Really really hoping to see the migration. What are our chances?

Thanks!
